Windows of the World: Celebration of Diversity

Grapevine Elementary will be celebrating the various cultures we have in our community with a look into the Windows of the World. Participants will setup a booth/table to showcase their heritage by displaying things from their country/culture. The celebration will be held Thursday, April 21, 2016 at 6:30pm in the GES cafeteria. We encourage our kids to embrace their differences and celebrate what makes them unique. This event will allow them to explore those differences in a fun and interactive way. As they visit each country/heritage they will get a stamp on their “Passport to Windows of the World!” We hope you will join in the fun!

Science of Spin Program

On April 26th GES is excited to host a Science of Spin Program! All grades will participate in a presentation and hands on learning of TEKS Science Objectives of Force & Motion (Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills). Using simple spinning objects such as gyroscopes, yo-yos, spin tops and flying disks, students are exposed to the scientific concepts of gyroscopic stability, rotational inertia, friction and gravity

On April 27th through May 2nd, the PTA will offer students an opportunity to purchase a yo-yo to continue and enhance their learning experience. The cost will be $7.00 or $11.00 depending on which yo-yo is chosen. For more information on this program, check out their website:

Parent Survey

In 2013, the Texas Legislature passed House Bill 5 (HB 5), which made significant changes to curriculum and graduation requirements, as well as, the assessment program and accountability system. In addition to the new graduation requirements, HB 5 also includes a requirement for school districts to conduct a community or parent engagement survey and report results to the Texas Education Agency (TEA). The information collected in this survey will help us highlight areas of excellence, as well as recognize areas of growth as we strive to Build Excellent Schools Together.

The survey link included in this message may be used multiple times in the instance that you have students on different campuses and will be active from April 11 through May 6, 2016. Once you click on the link, you may select if you would like to complete the survey in English or Spanish.

Click here to take the HB 5 survey:

I want to thank you for your participation in this survey and your continued support of Grapevine Elementary School and GCISD.

Some exciting benchmarks (online giving specific – see attached flyer for details): oStudents who raise $50 receive a Tshirt oStudents who raise $100 receive a MobiMate Bear oStudents collecting $500 receive a letter of recommendation This is also a friendly classroom competition. The top earning class will receive an Olive Garden pasta party. We encourage you to register your student under their classroom teacher’s online giving page.

  • Go to our school’s weblink (above)
  • Click on “Join your classroom team” or “Join your school team” on the right hand barker and follow prompts
  • Search for classroom teacher’s name or subject/grade level

Information From Mrs. Horn

Snack Donations Needed

For some of our families, providing a nutritious snack each day to assist their GES star’s performance throughout the day does not happen consistently because of food insecurities. If you are able, please donate individually packaged Goldfish or pretzels in order to help us provide that snack for students that arrive at school without it because of the insecurities. This would not pertain to students that simply forgot a snack that day. If your Star forgets his/her snack often, sending multiple days worth of snacks might help. For questions, please feel free to contact Angela Horn at or 817-251-5740. Thank you for your continued generosity and thoughtfulness.

Career Day in May

On Monday, May 23, GES will have a Career Day. Please consider sharing information about your line of work with our students. Do you know someone in our community, or have a family member or spouse that would be willing to speak with our GES Stars about their passion? If you are interested, or have a recommendation, please contact Angela Horn, our counselor, with their information! She can be reached at or 817-251-5740.
