This Week in Prep 1
In Language Arts we learned our Jolly Phonic /Ii/ and our Cafe strategy, 'Eagle Eye'. We also launched our home reader and Magic 100 program with great success! In Mathematics we worked on understanding the value of numbers up to 10, identifying one more or one less in a set, and ordering numbers.
The Virtues Project was also in focus this week as we celebrated our virtue of kindness. The children were encouraged to participate in 'random acts of kindness' with all of their classmates, as well as with their family at home. We also had a wonderful time on Friday, celebrating the Chinese New Year holiday. It was fabulous to see so much enthusiasm for an important holiday that is a major part of the host culture, Singapore.
Thank you to all of the parents who were able to attend the Mathematics workshop on Thursday morning. We hope this was an insightful look into our 'hand-on' approach to engaging in this extremely important part of our curriculum.
In the Spotlight: The Magic 100!
Welcome to the wonderful world of the Magic 100! The Magic 100 scheme caters for all children individually. Magic 100 provides sets of words on colored word - mats for your child to be working on at home and in class. We will regularly work with each child individually and when they can instantly recognize all the words on their mat your child will receive a colored certificate for that set, and be given the next color set of words.
We respect that every child develops at their own pace in the Early Years which means this program is by all means not a race to progress quickly through the scheme. Furthermore, a child who is particularly adept at sight recognition may have goals in other areas, for example attending to meaning. Similarly a child with strong comprehension skills may still be struggling with some sight work recognition.
Please enjoy and we are sure you will join us in encouraging success for your child through the program. As always, if you have any questions or need any help, please do not hesitate to talk to your us.
