Dewing School Happenings

Hello Dewing Families,

Springtime makes me so happy. This springtime makes me even happier. I came in to work the other day and saw these beautiful bulbs outside. It reminded me of the power of patience and resilience. We have come so far this year and we are excited for the newest changes at the Dewing.

This Smore is full of many important documents as we add more in person time on April 5th. We are so excited and our staff have been working so very hard to prepare. We are so grateful for their hard work and perseverance.

Arrival and Dismissal Beginning April 5th, there will be some new drop off and pickup routines. Please review the updated information below. We will likely have increased police presence from the Tewksbury Police Department for the first couple of weeks to help us navigate these changes. These changes will NOT begin until Monday, April 5th. As a reminder, please DO NOT turn left into the front of the Main Entrance. The signs will be arriving soon, so it may be worth practicing!

Lunch/Recess: Lunch in school for K-2 will begin April 5th. Students will sit 6 feet apart in the cafeteria or the gym (which will be transformed into a partial caf) while they eat. Each grade level will be split into two sections to accommodate safe distancing when eating. One group will go to lunch first and one will go to recess first. Each class will have its own recess area. Classes will rotate to a different area weekly. Please refer to information below for more information.

Preschool Families: You have all received information about the changes to the schedule, beginning April 12. If you have any questions, please contact your classroom teacher or Alexis Bosworth (abosworth@tewksbury.k12.ma.us)

We know this year has been hard. We appreciate everything you have done to make it a success. Your children have shown such resilience and we are so proud of each and every one of them.

School Lunch

As a reminder, school lunch is free for the remainder of the 2020-2021 school year. If your child is attending school in person, your child will use the lunch line when getting school lunch beginning April 5th (socially distanced). If your child orders a lunch, there will be a snack included for the next school day.

A reminder, please complete the free and reduced lunch form if you believe your child may be eligible. Even though lunches are free this year, the district receives funding when these forms are completed. Thank you! (Forms can be downloaded from the TPS website)

Big picture

See below for information sent in previous newsletters. This information is still important for us to share!

Visitors to the Dewing/Late arrivals/Nurse Dismissals

Visitors-Please be reminded, at this time, visitors are not permitted inside the building. This is for the health and safety of our students and staff. The only people permitted are staff members, students and approved contractors. If you need to contact the office in person, please come to the main door and ring the bell. A staff member will come out to talk to you and help you.

Late Arrivals-If your child is dropped off to school after 8:45, you must park in an assigned parking spot (not the bus drop off lane) and walk your child to the door. Please ring the bell and wait for a staff member to greet your child in person.

Nurse Dismissals-If your child is dismissed by the nurse, the dismissal area is now through the gym door (last door, closest to the C-wing). The gym is located on the right side of the building as you are facing the building. This is also the parent drop off area. You must call the nurse from your car to inform her of your arrival 97-640-7858 x303

We know that these procedures are different from other years and we appreciate your adherence to them. Every change we make is done to support the health and safety of our community. Thank you.
