School Coupon Books Kickoff

It's that time of year! Knox County Coupon Book Campaign begins this Friday, September 13, 2019. Our goal at FIS is to sell 6,000 coupon books. We are so happy that $8 of each book sale stays here at FIS. This year we are raising money to purchase supplementary science materials, add more technology tools that will support our teaching and learning, and help keep our facilities updated. The coupon books are not only a great way for you to save money but it puts money back in the school. Please see the attached letter below for full details. We appreciate all your support!

Grandparents' Day

Thank you for all the special friends that joined us for Grandparent's Day! It was a great day and such a special time for our students and our community. Also, a special thank you to Niki Adams and Linda Cline for organizing this amazing event and all the parent volunteers for helping decorate the cafeteria.

FIS Art

The FIS Art Department is living in the 1860s this year! Lots of fun activities are planned for the year including a Battle of Campbell Station Day, penmanship, quilting, and plein air art. Parents, you are invited to a special Quilt Turning September 12th! We will have a Hall of Fame Quilter present to explore historic quilting & look at antique quilts. Have an old quilt you would like to share or possibly learn about? Bring it in! Sessions will last 30 minutes, check with your homeroom teacher for the time you child will be attending.

Attendance

Families - it was very exciting this year to again be a Reward School. This takes a lot of hard work by all stakeholders. Our school receives grades from the state based on a variety of criteria and one being attendance. Attendance is a very important criteria, because it effects other aspects of school - learning and friends. Please make sure your child comes to school every day on time so that they can learn to their full potential and develop long lasting friendships.

Leaving FIS?

If your family is planning to move or leave FIS, please make sure you contact the main office at 865-966-6703 to let us know the last day your student will be at school. This will ensure all appropriate paperwork will be completed and prevent your child from being marked absent.
Big picture

Grade Level Homework

Parents, we strive to keep homework at a minimum:

  • Third grade students should have no more than a total of 30 minutes a day
  • Fourth grade should have no more than 40-50 minutes a day
  • Fifth grade should have no more than 60 minutes a day - total for all three subjects.

If students are unable to complete homework within the given time frames, parents/guardians can draw a line and sign the page.

FIS Cross Country Team

The FIS Cross Country team is off to a fast start!

The Cross Country team kicked off the season at the Victor Ashe Fall Classic. The girls team placed second, paced by team captain Marely Ortega who finished 3rd overall. The boys side took home the team title in a close race. Boys captain Andrew Cabaniss ran a fantastic race, earning the big trophy with a first place finish!

On Wednesday, the team traveled to Cove Lake State Park. Many great performances propelled the girls to once again place second. The boys grabbed another team title with Andrew keeping his winning streak alive with another overall championship. No small feat with over 500 participants in the race.

Upcoming meet schedule:

9/16 - Melton Hill Park (new meet)

9/23 - Leisure Pools

10/5 - Area Elementary and Middle School Championships and State Qualifier @Victor Ashe Park
