Newsletter Term 3, Week 6
Sunday 28th August 2022
Principal's Message
Tēnā koutou e te whānau - Greetings family and friends
It has been great to see the uptake of our new St Patrick's School App since its release last week. So far we have had about 60% of our School Community access the app to receive notices and alerts.
By shifting to an app that solely focuses on communication, it is envisioned that our app will give you better access to things such as submitting absentees, contacts, school information, calendars, alerts, and our Newsletter.
We have welcomed two new faces to our St Patrick's staff in the last couple of weeks. Paula Brown is currently working in Room 1 while Jan Wood is on leave and Paula Bevilacqua is currently taking reading recovery while Karen Clarke is on leave. Both have settled in well and are enjoying our lovely school environment.
School Photos - Monday 29th August
Once again you will be able to view and purchase your school photos online. When the photos are ready for printing (between 2 to 3 weeks after the photo shoot), students will bring home their own unique shoot key slip with instructions on how to view and order online.
It is important that on the day all students are wearing their correct Winter School uniform, including school socks, school shoes, and hair ties/bows/bands in navy blue.
School Assembly - Friday 2nd September
Face masks are no longer required at school. However public health advice is that masks continue to be strongly encouraged when indoors. Wearing a mask is a key health measure that slows the spread of Covid-19 in indoor settings. For that reason, we ask that visitors to the school, including parents and caregivers, wear a mask whenever they are indoors, on school grounds.
Room 5 is hosting our next School Assembly on Friday 2nd September at 9:00am in the School Hall
Disco - Friday 2nd September
Door sales for the Disco will be CASH ONLY.
There are 4 pizza flavours + a GF option to choose from. $2 per slice or 2 for $3.
Pizza slices are available by pre-order only.
Pizza slices will be available at the following times:
- Year 1 - Year 3, 6:00pm - 6:15pm
- Year 4 - Year 6, 6:15pm - 6:30pm
This form must be completed and payment received no later than Thursday 1st September to avoid disappointment.
The link can be found in Alerts and/or our Facebook Page
Teacher only Day - Friday 9th September
On Friday 9th September staff will be working with Kate Brown from EduKate on our Curriculum Design to align with the 'Curriculum Refresh' the Ministry of Education is currently delivering around the country.
The school will be closed on this day.

The Aurora Centre
Burnside High School 151 Greers Road, Burnside
Christchurch School of Gymnastics.
In 2021 the PFA (Parents and Friends Association) applied for an SBS Grant to assist with the cost of getting our Year 1 - 4 students to the Christchurch School of Gymnastics. Thankfully our grant of $1500 was successful and with extra financial support from the PFA, all our Year 1 - 4 students are able to make their way to the Christchurch School of Gymnastics.
Over the next 6 - 8 weeks the Year 1 - 4 students will be bused to the Christchurch School of Gymnastics for their lessons. The lessons are taken by trained tutors who provide the students with the opportunity to develop the fundamental skills of strength, co-ordination, body awareness, balance, and confidence on specialised equipment.
A big thank you to SBS and the PFA for putting these smiles on our students faces!
Cantamath Competition
Congratulations to our Year 7 and 8 Cantamath Teams who competed at the 49th annual Cantamath competition on Tuesday evening.
The annual Cantamath competition has been running since 1972!
Our Year 7 team did extremely well placing 17th while our Year 8 team finished 5th place out of 83 teams! What a fantastic achievement.
Year 8 Cantamath Team: Ben Ling, Cam Gane, Emma Mahoney, and Anya Coombes. Year 7 Cantamath Team: Annabel Carter, Enzo Stewart, Edmund Grace, and Konrad van Herel.
A big thank you also to Mr Beaton and Mrs Bond for preparing our teams for this event.
Combined Schools, Family Mass
A big thank you to those families who attended the first Combined Schools, Family Mass at Christ the King Church this morning. There was standing room only!
It was a lovely occasion and one we hope we can continue to replicate over the coming weeks. The dates throughout Term 3 are Sunday 11th September, and Sunday 18th September.
This is a lovely way for families within the Christchurch North Parish to come together to celebrate Mass.
For this special Mass, students do not have to wear their school uniform and are able to sit with their friends or parents and caregivers throughout the Mass.
It is important that we support this new 'Family Mass' concept at Christ the King Church. It is envisioned that this Mass will be more child and family focused and encourage more families to Mass each week.
Year 7 and 8 E Sports Competition
The Speed Build was held at Breens Intermediate and was based around Kupe and the Giant Wheke. The children worked well in their teams. It was a new experience that all the children enjoyed.
The Kahui Ako team did a wonderful job of organising it!
