What's Heating Up at Holy Spirit
December 7-11
Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works - Hebrews 10:24-
Second Week of Advent
John the Baptist preached repentance and baptized the people, in preparation for the one who would baptize with the Holy Spirit.
Four Weeks of Advent
We are very appreciative for the MANY food donations we received last week! Strathcona Food Bank needed to pick up a full load during the week and another at the end. Thank you!
2nd Week December 7-11 (joy)
Students are invited to donate winter socks, hats, gloves, etc. for “Bag of Hope” and hang them on the Christmas tree outside the library.
3rd Week December 14-18 (love)
Donate money or online for Valeda House.
4th Week December 21 & 22 (peace)
Students are encouraged to share a sign of peace (similar to acts of kindness)
It has been a hard year for many of us but a harder year for some. If you have the means to help please consider supporting these causes. We appreciate your consideration and generosity.

Tobogganing at Holy Spirit
We are lucky at Holy Spirit School to have a wonderful hill for tobogganing in our backyard. Students will be learning the rules for tobogganing during their Physical Education classes. The Alberta Safety Guidelines for Physical Activity will be followed as well as some additional guidelines to ensure your child’s safety. Once your child has learned the safety guidelines and has shown that they will adhere to them, the hill will be open during class time. Students will be required to use the toboggans supplied by Holy Spirit. Tobogganing is a high risk activity with potential risks involved such as bumps, bruises, and breaks. Snowpants, coat, mitts and a toque are required for riders. Although helmets are not required they are recommended. Please let your child's teacher know if you do not want your child to participate.
Holy Spirit students will demonstrate their skills and knowledge of safe tobogganing practices by:
Assessing the hill condition first to ensure it is not icy and that all obstacles, including jumps are removed,
Keeping the runway clear of people by immediately getting out of the way after descending and moving to the designated path for ascending the hill,
Waiting patiently in line at the top of the hill until the runway is cleared,
Riding down on their own power without being pushed,
Riding the toboggan in a seated or kneeling position (not standing or lying down),
Riding one at a time unless otherwise instructed by a teacher,
Controlling the descent speed and direction with feet or hands when necessary,
Safely abandoning the toboggan if it veers toward an obstacle such as a person,
Using school toboggans during school hours and sharing them in an orderly fashion. Once a riding student arrives back at the top of the hill, he or she gives the toboggan to the next person in line.
