Green and White to End the Fight
Ohio University's Annual Homecoming Food Drive
My name is Kendra Lutes and I am currently serving as the Vice President of Philanthropy for Ohio University’s Student Alumni Board. In years past, Student Alumni Board has been the organizing force behind the campus’ largest canned food drive, formerly known as Paint the Town Green. This year, that same canned food drive, now titled Pack the Pantry, is getting revamped to be bigger and better than ever but we can’t be successful without the support and enthusiasm that your organizations bring every year!
Pack the Pantry will not only be a week long food drive that benefits the Athens County Food Pantry, but it will also include an event the week of Homecoming to give students the opportunity to make a connection with who they're serving as well as participate in a fun event.
So Here's How You Can Get Involved
Participate in the canned food drive! Starting on Thursday, October 2nd and lasting through the event date, Thursday, October 9 we’ll be encouraging organizations to collect food donations as well as monetary donations for the Athens County Food Pantry. These donations will be collected at the event on Thursday.
- Attend the event! Thursday, October 9 (during Homecoming) organizations will come to the Charles J. Ping Center Front Lawn anytime between 4:00-7:00pm to deliver their cans and participate in our can castle competition. Organizations will be judged through social media on their can castle constructions as well as the amount of cans brought in and, of course, their Ohio University pride!
Organizations will be split for judging based on the amount of students that are in the organization. The winning Large Organization (30+ members) will receive a prize of $300 and the winning Small Organization (30 members of less) will receive a prize of $200!
Help Us Serve the Athens County Food Pantry
In addition to competing at the event, organizations will also have the chance to mingle with representatives from the Athens County Food Pantry and become educated on their mission as an organization that is interested in serving the Athens community.
If you’re interested in participating in this event and would like further information or to register your organization, please visit our website (http://www.ohio.edu/homecoming/pantry.cfm) which further explains the scoring at the event, as outlined above. Or if you have any questions, please reach out to me email@example.com.
Athens County has over 12,000 citizens suffering from food insecurity. Let’s come together as a University and do what we can to support the community that houses our home away from home!
We Look Forward to Hearing From You Sooon!
