The Buzz at Westbrook School
October 21, 2022
From the Principal...
Dear Westbrook Families,
Thank you so much for supporting the Walk for Westbrook. The PTO raised over $20,000 to fund Westbrook PTO activities and events. The entire school won an assembly with The Bubble Wonder this week. We are so proud of all our students; we had a great time celebrating their accomplishments.
The Westbrook staff is committed to helping our students be courageous by exploring new opportunities, developing skills and doing what is right. This past week Mr. Anderson and I have started visiting each classroom to read a picture book with the theme of courage. Mr. Anderson has been reading the book The Little Yellow Leaves by Carin Berger, and I have been reading The Magical Yet by Lorena Alverez. Spending time in classrooms reading and connecting with our students has been wonderful.
Please take a moment to review all of the information below regarding Halloween events, PTO events, and Parent/Teacher conferences.

HALLOWEEN at WESTBROOK
Halloween is quickly approaching. The Halloween parade schedule is below. Families are invited to attend the outdoor parade (weather permitting) at their child’s assigned time. We will walk out of door #1 and parade around the school. Please spread out so that all families can see the students walk by.
Students are invited to wear their costumes to school for the full day. It is important to ensure students are in comfortable costumes to sit in the classroom and use the bathroom. Please help your child make safe and respectful decisions about their costumes. Students may wear an appropriate mask in the parade but not during school. Make-up, weapons, fake blood, or inappropriate dress are not allowed. All costume accessories will be left in the classroom for recess and lunch. Students may not bring food or candy to share.

We are so excited to welcome author/illustrator Laurie Keller to Westbrook on Thursday, November 3! Before she receives her 2022 Monarch Award for Potato Pants! on Friday, she will spend some time with our students talking about how she became an author/illustrator, read from her newest book Wake Me Up in 20 Coconuts! and even have a drawing session with us!
Parents, if you have a copy of one of her books that you’d like signed, please send it with your child that day with their name on a paper/post it and she will sign it. We will send books back to you by the next day.

Material Drop Off
Starting next week, October 24th, the office staff will begin utilizing a new material drop procedure.
Should you need to drop off materials for your student (lunches, hats, gloves, chromebooks, etc,) we will ask you to please place the item on the bench or in one of the baskets in the vestibules. We will have paper and pens available so that you can write your student's name if the item is not already labeled.
Thank you for your understanding and assistance.
