GT with Mrs. G!
Happy Summer!
Can you believe the year is over???
I can tell you with 100% honesty that this has been my very best year of teaching in my career, and I have no reason to think that next year won't top it! Parents, thank you so much for entrusting your children to me. They inspire and challenge me to do a better job every day. I have so many exciting plans for next year. Here are my top 5 goals and areas of improvement I have identified for next year, if you are interested!
Keep your minds busy this summer! Dr. Hensley has issued some challenges to students. He would like to see EVERY kid read 6 books over the summer. I am committed to doing that, too! If your kids read 6 books (or more) this summer, have them write down the titles and bring them to me for a prize in August! Take part in PSPL Summer Programs! As a bonus, there are usually some great free coupons for museums around the state in the packet you get when you sign up. Encourage kids keep a journal, learn their multiplication tables, make art, learn a new language with the Duolingo app, or earn some more trophies in Exact Path. Visit the historic sites in Frankfort this summer. There is so much to do and summer is very short!!!
GT Progress Reports for all identified 4-8 grade students will be delivered to students this afternoon or tomorrow morning.
New Identification for K/1 talent pool students and formally identified GT rising 4th graders should be sent home tomorrow, or mailed home next week.
ATLAS Program for 7/8
Twenty-five gifted and/or high performing rising 7th and 8th graders and their parents received invitations and information about a new course I am teaching next year. Please be sure to respond to that invitation as soon as possible! I am beyond excited about this class. It is pretty much my teaching dream come true!
****PARENTS, if you haven't already, please take a few minutes to give me some feedback on the direction of the GT program this year. I am busy planning some exciting new things for next year and I would love your input. I feel like I finally began to get into the "rhythm" of the job and have so many ideas to implement next year. The PARENT survey can be found HERE.
****STUDENTS, please take a few moments to complete this survey about the GT program this year. Many of you took it on Friday in class; however, not everyone did! I promise I will consider all of your feedback as I plan for next year. As much as I would love to, I can't implement Donut Days or nap time or get a hot tub for my room (these have been real student suggestions in the past!!!), but I would love to know what fun ideas you have!
Several of you completed the survey in the last few weeks and I appreciate your feedback so much. It isn't too late to give me your feedback, though. I've already determined a few things I need to implement early next year that will make a huge difference for our kids.
- Most parents would like more direct communication about their kiddos. I will be sending home a quarterly progress report next year. I have an end-of-year one ready to send out this year, but I realize that is too little, too late! Please know that you can ALWAYS contact me with questions or concerns about your student.
- We need to have a GT orientation meeting early in the year, especially for newly identified students and their families. I am trying to think through how that might look and how I can integrate that into the beginning of the year plans.
- So many parents expressed a desire to see differentiation for gifted and talented students in the regular classroom. YES! I am working on a better plan to assist teachers with that and help them monitor it for next year.
I have so many ideas of how to do things better next year. Believe me when I say that I have the best job in the whole world and I love getting to serve my students and their families. I promise you that I will always look for ways to improve our program!
