"This I Believe" My Hero
My Hero
In the past, when I was little, I have been asked many times, who is your hero? At that time I never really put much thought into it because I was a kid. When I was a kid I always thought of a hero as being someone like superman or spiderman. But now that I'm older a hero to me is someone who is always there for you, and someone you can look up to. You can always depend on them throughout life. My sister is definitely the person who fits the description. Without her I wouldn’t be the person I am today. I wouldn't be alive and healthy without her. My sister was there when I needed her most.
I can tell her everything, all my secrets, all my problems. We have been through every possible thing that you can imagine together because of her I am strong. I am closer to her than anyone else in my life. Sometimes I feel like we are one person in two bodies. We may have our little fights, but we always have each other’s backs. She is always giving me advice and I’m thankful for that because her opinions matter to me. I've always told myself that no matter what I'll never leave her side and we will always be together. I always tell her that we will grow old and sit on the front porch together just to talk and be there with each other. That no matter what we will always be like we are today.
I've never really had parents to depend on, it’s always just been my sister and I. We were taken from our parents and we've only had each other. I've taken it harder than she has. I've struggled a lot and when I do she’s always there. I'm always talking to her about what is on my mind and she gets me through it. I used to use strategies that weren’t healthy for me to solve my problems. Ever since my sister found out about them I haven't done them since. She always gets me through it. I don't know if I would be here if it weren't for her. She is the strongest and most brave person I've ever met. I couldn't ask for anything better in my life.
To be honest, if I didn't have my sister I would be completely lost. She is my everything. Being a teenager without parents is hard. You go through things that sometimes you don’t understand and you feel like no one can take care of you. You get scared of the future. You feel like you're not ready for the world or for what life might throw at you. Beyond that, I have my sister. With her I feel like I can accomplish and be anything. She inspires me to do the things I love and to face my fears. Thanks to her, I’m not scared of opportunities in life.
I'm so lucky and so thankful to have my sister. I know that I will always be able to count on her until the end no matter what. She gives the me strength and hope that I need to make it through this crazy journey. She saved my life. My sister Kimberly is my hero. Always has been and always will be. Everyday when I wake up, I look out the window and I look at her and I think to myself, I've been blessed with the greatest gift of all. The sun rises and sets with her. I wouldn't want it to be any other way.
