January 2018 - Happy New Year!

Superintendent - Brad Gudme

The Memphis High School National Honor Society

Their are thirty-five members of the Memphis High School National Honor Society that support many programs throughout the school and community. Various school events, such as Walk to School Day; Pumpkin Fun Run; Band Boosters’ fundraisers; Field Day & Bike Rodeo; etc., benefit from their help throughout the year.

  • Tutoring students is a valuable contribution of our members, and if you walk by the media center, you’ll notice Amber McKnight, Caleb White, or Katie Ren helping out a junior high student with math, science, or English.
  • Red Cross Blood drives are held yearly, most recently on November 29th collecting 30 pints from MHS students, faculty, & individuals from the surrounding community.
  • This spring they’ll host the Nissan Teen Driver Safety Initiative. This event highlights valuable information on driver’s safety, Michigan rules, regulations, and penalties, all taught utilizing an award winning Interactive Awareness program from
  • Out and about in both spring and fall, you might see our honor society students cleaning a section of M-19 between Lambs and Hill Roads for the Adopt-A-Highway program. This fall, a small group also collected rubbish in the Belle River Park
  • A significant accomplishment completed by Sylvia Koveck, a 2017 graduate, are the athletic banners you now see hanging in our gym. NHS funded the project of over $1000 and with the help of senior Caleb White, athletic achievements dating back to 1956 are now honored on our gym walls.

Not only does this organization encourage service to the school and community, further education is a priority. Since 2015 a $2500 award from the Distraction Free in the “D” contest has helped 6 seniors with their college expenses, with 2 more to be awarded this May. And, for nearly 25 years an outstanding Memphis High School honor society member has been recognized and awarded the NHS Scholarship.
