PRE-K NEWS

March 31th to April 4th

OUR CURRENT STUDY IS...

BALLS, BALLS, AND MORE BALLS! We just finished our last week of our ball study. The kids favorite part was exploring what is INSIDE a ball. We cut open a golf ball, a tennis ball, a baseball, a plastic ball, and deflated a beach ball. So fun to see their reactions to the insides. We used these balls to discuss hollow and solid.

Our upcoming study is REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE! We are excited to see what the next 6 weeks has in store for us!

SMALL GROUP ACTIVITIES

WALK A LETTER: We made letters out of tape on the carpet and used our letter carpet squares to help identify letters and sounds.

GUESS WHAT'S INSIDE?: We took our collection of balls and graphed which balls we thought were hollow or solid.

RHYMING: We made up rhymes about balls as a large group.

PLAYDOUGH: We made play dough balls and compared sizes with the playdough balls and collection of balls.

WHEN THE DOORBELL RANG: Large group discussion about this great story about sharing. The end of the story is open ended...we discussed and made up who could have been at the door when the doorbell rang.

BOOKS WE READ

WHEN THE DOORBELL RANG: A fun story about sharing and having to stop each time the doorbell rang for new guests. The more people that came to the door, the more problem solving had to happen!

HAVE A BALL: All about different kinds of balls.

SONGS, POEMS, AND GAMES!

WHEN IN A SPORTS SECTION OF THE STORE:

Pick up an item that goes with a ball. Have your child guess what kind of ball is needed for that object.

Count how many different kinds of balls you see in the aisle.

While shopping, count how many things you see that look like a ball.

AUTISM AWARNESS IN APRIL

The whole school will be supporting Autism Awareness April by having the following spirit days:

Monday, April 7: Ti-Dye Day

Tuesday, April 8: Jersey/Favorites Day – Wear items that are representative of your favorite sports teams, movies, musical artists, television shows, etc.

Wednesday, April 9: Wacky Wednesday – Mix match colors and patterns for an overall wacky look.

Thursday, April 10: Pajama Day - Slippers allowed, but MUST bring shoes!

Friday, April 11: Superhero/Princess Day – Dress up like your favorite superhero or princess.

JOLLY PHONICS

Our most recent sound we focused on was "j". The older kids are really working hard at reading and spelling basic three and four letter words. It's great to watch as the younger kids start to make some letter-sound connections as well.
