Letter from the Superintendent: Testing for COVID Prior to Returning to School
Dear NSCSD Staff, Parents and Guardians,
As you know, the District distributed at-home COVID-19 test kits to students prior to the mid-winter recess. In order to ensure the safety of our students returning to school after break and to minimize the potential for new infections, parents are encouraged to use the test kits to test students for COVID-19 prior to returning to school.
If a student tests positive please upload the positive test result at the Onondaga County Home Testing Website by clicking here and report the positive result to your child's school nurse. Positive students should isolate as per Onondaga County Department of Health Guidelines and close contacts should quarantine for five days. Click here to see the Onondaga County DOH Guidelines.
If a student tests NEGATIVE at home but is exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19, an official, negative laboratory PCR or NAAT test must be obtained prior to returning to school and the lab test result must be provided to the school nurse. The District is unable to accept negative home test results per Onondaga County DOH guidelines when a student exhibits symptoms of COVID-19. Click here for information on laboratory testing sites.
Please contact your child's school nurse with any questions.
Sincerely
Daniel D. Bowles
