The Corley Cheer

Community Edition

March 1, 2023

Greetings Corley Community,

Thank you again for being the BEST community ever! I am so HAPPY to be your principal of Corley Elementary! The students, teachers, and support staff work so hard to ensure every minute of the school day is meaningful for students! Parents, thank you for all you do to partner with us to support your children. Conferences are already off to a great start because of you and your dedication to the students at Corley! Our Corley teachers are ready to support you during Conferences! Please note the important information below and The Corley Cheer. Let me know of any support that you may need!

Vision Clinic

Corley Elementary has been selected for a visit by the doctors/physicians from the Georgia Optometric Association and the VSP Mobile Eye Clinic. Students will receive a free comprehensive eye exam and, if needed, a free pair of eyeglasses. This event will be held here at Corley on Wednesday, March 22nd & Thursday, March 23rd during school hours. If you are interested in your student participating in this, please ensure that the documents are completed and sent back to the school. The documents must be completed and returned by Friday (March 10th). Please feel free to connect with Mrs. Salter, if you need any support.

Career Week

Corley Elementary will host a Career Week and Career Fair for our students. We are so excited about this initiative. Our theme will be "Our Future Begins with US". Your child will be able to participate in several activities where they can get a peak into the many career opportunities that can be a part of their future. Be on the lookout for a flyer coming soon!

Proud to be your principal,

Mrs. Duckworth

Safety Reminders (Student Arrival)

We have recently noticed an increase in students that are dropped off in front of the school, without parental assistance. As a reminder, students should arrive between 8:15 AM-8:50 AM. Students that are dropped off in a parent's car should use the car rider lane between those times. However, if you are dropping your students off after 8:50 AM, please come into the building with your students to complete the official check-in process. There are occasions where Corley parents will need to use the front of the building as an entrance, we ask that a parent/guardian are able to assist their student into the building.

Parent-Teacher Association (PTA)

Corley Elementary has created a Parent Advisory Council that meets monthly. We have discussed the ongoing process of creating a Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) at our school. Our Parent Liason, Mrs. Castillo, is in the process of scheduling a meeting to discuss this process with the community that will take place after school. We have partnered with GCPS for strategies and experts to help our school with this process. Be on the lookout for advertisements during the Shamrock Shake, Conferences, and more.

Black History Month

We had a wonderful time as we celebrated Black History Month! Our teachers and students were able to participate in activities that were connected to key leaders (both past and present), AKS-aligned Social Studies lessons, projects, activities, virtual field trips, opportunities to wear special attire, and more! We can't wait to plan for this celebration for the upcoming school year!

Read Across America

Big picture

Corley Elementary School is excited to announce that we will be having a Book Character Dress-Up Day to celebrate Read Across America on March 3, 2023. On that day, your child may come to school dressed up as a character from a favorite book. The character must be from a book they have read and your child should be prepared to describe both the character and the book.

Please work with your child to plan a simple homemade costume. Please do not buy a book character costume! Just do your best to gather an assortment of hats, clothing, or other props to create a homemade costume. Your child should bring a copy of the book to class that day. If your child does not have a copy of their book, encourage them to visit the school library or ask their teacher if there is a classroom copy to borrow. Please guide your student in selecting an appropriate book character. (Masks, face paint, or toy weapons are not permitted.)

We look forward to this exciting celebration of Read Across America! Thank you for your support with this activity!

PBIS Celebration!

Our schoolwide PBIS Celebration was a HIT! Our Corley Scholars enjoyed being outside in the beautiful weather as they made wonderful memories with friends! As a PBIS school, we take pride in our events and instruction around the procedures of PBIS! Be on the lookout for information about our next event in April!

The Shamrock Shake!

Our second annual Shamrock Shake is Thursday, March 16th from 5:30-7:00! Tickets can be purchased through MyPaymentsPlus or cash. Due to the fire code, the dance is only for Corley students and their parents. Ticket sales will close once we reach 500 participants!

Women's History Month

Corley is celebrating the accomplishments of women during the Month of March! Join us as we learn more about Women’s History and make connections between the history books and the inspirational women we know!

  • Woman’s History Timeline – Take a walk down the history timeline! The Corley hallway walls will represent a life-size timeline. Each grade level will be assigned a time frame. We are asking that you work together to highlight the accomplishments of women for the assigned time frame.
  • Small Paper Doll Cut Outs – Students will decorate a small paper doll and showcase a woman they admire and are inspired by. These paper dolls will be posted throughout the building.
  • Wonderful Women Wednesday – Ms. Fisher will host Corley’s Jeopardy Questions during the Morning Announcement with a focus on Wonderful Women.
