WAYS TO HELP YOUR CHILD WITH THE SECOND LANGUAGE ACQUISITION
There are so many ways to help your child at home even if you are not fluent in the target language they are learning. Here are some tips for doing so:
- ask what they learned in class
- review their vocabulary or class notes with them for 5-10 minutes daily.
- listen to music in the target language.
- watch Television or movies in the target language.
- speak the target language if possible at home.
- flashcards with vocabulary
- label items in the house in the target language.
- use free digital platforms like Duolingo for 5 minutes a day.
WHAT ARE WE DOING THIS MONTH?
SPANISH ACADEMY
Spanish 1(6th)- Students are learning about pastimes, weekend, activities, and sports. We also learn how to make plans and invitations. We also are working with the present tense ir, with the stem-changing verbs e-ie; o-ue, and we will finish with the irregular yo form.
Spanish 1 (7th)-Students are finishing lesson 5, we are working discussing and planning vacations, describing a hotel, talking about how you feel, and taking about the sessions and the weather. We are learning to use the verb estar with conditions and emotions, the present progressive, ser and estar, and the direct object nouns and pronouns. (Sra. Morales)
In Sra. Miguez's class students are learning:
La tecnologia.
- Vocabulario sobre la tecnología y el internet.
- Hablar sobre el uso de la tecnología en la vida cotidiana.
- Términos relacionados con los carros y los accesorios.
- Utilizar expresiones útiles para buscar ayuda para resolver un problema técnico.
- Participar en una conversación para la reparación de un carro en un taller.
- Comparar el uso de las redes sociales en mi estado y en países hispanohablantes.
- Explicar por qué y para qué se usa la tecnología.
- Comandos familiares.

Spanish 2- Students will be introduced to the following:
- Hablar de los mercados al aire libre en los países hispanohablantes.
- Buscar información de los diseñadores Adolfo Domínguez, Silvia Tcherassi, Oscar de la Renta, Narcizo Rodriguez.
- Buscar información de la diseñadora de ropa venezolana Carolina Herrera
- Hablar de acciones en el pasado.
- Aprender los adjetivos y pronombres demostrativos.

FRENCH ACADEMY
French 1(6th)-The students are learning about prepositions of location, disjunctive pronouns and telling time. Also, students will work on the French Country project.
French 1 (7th)-The students are learning vocabulary words on Going on Vacation and the culture in Tahiti. They will read articles on the Museum d’Orsay. They will work on their Travel Project and do research on their country of choice.
French 2- The students are learning about health and daily routines. They will read an article on French health and on the Portrait L’occitane en Provence. They will work on their French project.
TWO WAY DUAL LANGUAGE ACADEMY
español
sexto grado(6)- students continue working on the sports, hobbies and adjective vocabulary. They are using the stem changing verbs to create sentences and paragraphs. We will visit the Media Center the Media Center agin to gets books for their book reports.
séptimo grado(7)-students have been working on the different forms writing with g/j, and letter h. They will understand the differences of meaning based on the use of this and many other letters based on the content meaning and how they are written and pronounced.
octavo grado AP(8)-Students have been working on the Interpretative audio practice of the AP test. They will be practicing with all multiple choice sections including, audio of authentic resources such as podcasts, interviews, etc.
ciencias/Science
6to-Students will be covering Life science. They will be working on on classification and Human Body Systems
7mo-Students will covering Life science. They will be learning about Reproduction-DNA, Genetics, and Ecological Relationships.
8vo- Students will be covering Physical Science. Physical and Chemical Change, photosynthesis, respiration, and Reviewing for PMA 3 using Study Island.
