StandOUT Award
Mrs. Fett passed the torch this past week to Mrs Sigrist.
"I would like to pass the torch to someone who exemplifies a true champion. This person is someone who is always helping where needed...whether its at car rider line helping call names or just helping with crowd control or giving hugs to former students in the cafeteria. She always has fun with her students and she is always willing to dress crazy when we have dress-up days. Students love being in her classroom. You can tell she loves her students past and present and all the ones in between. She also goes that extra mile when someone is struggling academically or emotionally - she is always listening. Mrs Sigrist is the one I am passing the torch to this week."

You Choose -- It's still in the details.
"You get to choose your attitude every day. You are the sole person responsible for your attitude, and how you choose your attitude impacts everyone with whom you come into contact. By choosing your attitude every day and leaving your ego at the door, you are saying that you are putting those around you first and that your sole focus is on the amazing children right in front of you. With that kind of attitude and focus, you give yourself the opportunity to be amazing each and every day - the chance to be the difference for students. When we are able to do this collectively, our schools can become unstoppable.
When educators are having fun and being present, they become mindful of one another and of each person's needs. When you are present, you notice ways to uplift the people around you. You figure out how best to work together on behalf of the children. Being present is in the details; it's the little things, like coming prepared to a planning meeting, doing small, random acts of kindness, or standing in a hallway when it's easier to sit at your desk. Being present is about being engaged with your students-- conferencing when you don't have to, reading with students while they are reading. This kind of mindfulness shows up in your attention to the details fo the work you do each and every day. Try dropping a small note off for a colleague, or leave a sticky note on someone's door who did something special. These small gestures of being present uplift the entire team and building."
Details, the little things, effort and attitude, choices ... these things seem to be the central message from all the champions we have studied. These things are what make champions and these things are what break champions. Just as our students do not remain in a constant state of motivation neither do we. Let's be honest ... there may be some days we aren't jumping with joy to go to our intervention groups or start PROWL right on time or plan for that word study group. But we have a choice ... do we do what's easy or do we do what CHAMPIONS do? Every day ... full effort and positive attitude, attention to details and the little things ... EVEN when it's not easy. We have too many students counting on us to not get back up everyday and go one more round. Remember that each minute of your day is an opportunity to be a champion and to create a champion. Let's make a promise to each student and each team member to be present these remaining 15 days, (even in the craziness of December) let's push each other and hold each other accountable to our Champion expectations.
