Columbus Promise: Free Tuition at Columbus State Community College
What is the Columbus Promise?
The Columbus Promise is an exciting new program that enables Columbus City Schools graduates to go to college for free at Columbus State Community College. It covers six semesters of tuition and fees, grants an additional scholarship for expenses like books, offers special services and support, and connects them to jobs. The Columbus Promise is a joint initiative of the City of Columbus, Columbus City Schools, I Know I Can, and Columbus State Community College.
What can students take at Columbus State?
This program applies to any associate degree and many certificates and job training programs at the college as well, including many in the skilled trades area. Students can also use the first two years to transfer to a four-year university to get a bachelor’s degree.
How do students get accepted into the program?
To become a Columbus Promise Scholar, students must:
- Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
- Complete the Columbus State Community College application for admission
- Complete the Columbus Promise Application (available in mid-November 2021)
- Graduate from Columbus City Schools
What is the future of the Columbus Promise?
Currently, this is a three-year pilot, so students in the class of 2022, 2023, and 2024 can count on it being available. It might change or grow, but we have every intention of keeping the Columbus Promise program around and are also working to make it available past 2024, too. One priority in the years to come is to bring four-year universities into the program, leaning on Columbus State’s successful 2+2 Preferred Pathways transfer option for junior and senior year. Coalition partners are engaged in positive conversations with several such 4-year universities. In the next several years to come, the partner organizations share a long-term vision of expanding this program to cover more students in more neighborhoods and school districts or even to adults; to partner with more post-secondary destinations; and to incorporate more financial and career support in the years to come.
For further information please check the district's Fact Sheet and visit CbusPromise.

Hello Beechcroft Families,
My name is Simona Noor, the Family Ambassador at BHS.
I am writing to parents and caregivers because we at Beechcroft understand the negative impact COVID-19 has had on many of our families, which is why Columbus City Schools is starting a Check-in-Connect initiative this month. This means I will be calling to hear what you are experiencing in real-time and provide you with current information about social, health and government services. I will also share important information about the school and district.
I know receiving calls during the day may appear to be about your student, which is why I want to inform you that most of the calls I will be making this winter and even spring will be related to Check-in-Connect. Please, save my contact information: office # 380-997-1587 and work cell: 614-285-5367.
Please know that we are all in this together and I look forward to partnering with you this 2021-2022 academic year.
Thank you,
Simona

Your Input is Needed for the 2022-2023 School Year Calendar
Columbus City Schools is creating the 2022-2023 School Calendar. Prior to approval by the Board of Education, families have an opportunity to share their thoughts about the calendar and the process for planning out a typical school year. Including families in our district's decision making is important. Family Ambassadors are asked to complete the survey (link below) and to encourage families to share their opinions and ideas before Friday, November 12, at Noon.
SHARE YOUR FEEDBACK ON THE DRAFT 2022-2023 SCHOOL CALENDAR: https://forms.gle/szRzp3peuzdm37Rq9
This survey is anonymous (we are not asking for names). Information will be shared with our leadership team and could lead to changes for next year or in the future.
If you have questions, please feel free to contact the Office of Family Engagement at 614-365-8868 or email us at engage@columbus.k12.oh.us.
This is a good opportunity for all parents/caregivers to voice their concerns or agreements, so please share your feedback. Families whose holidays are not included in the calendar can state their wishes to see those holidays being acknowledged by Columbus City Schools.
