Letter from the Principal
Dear Tualatin Black Bear Families,
We all hope this week’s message finds everyone well during this time. I have a great deal of appreciation for all of our students, staff members and families after a successful first month of school. Our students have learned new ways to be a safe, kind and responsible Tualatin Elementary Black Bear, and our teachers have learned how to help them be successful each day as we continue to do things differently. We know that it takes a lot of support from home to keep the success going. We also know that it is more challenging when parents are not able to be on campus as volunteers. Please contact your child’s teacher or our office if you have any questions about the school day. Conferences on Oct. 28-29 are also a great opportunity to learn more about your child’s day.
Update on Volunteers
Our current guidance has moved the potential start date for having volunteers back on campus to November 2nd.
Lunch Time Update (changing weather)
We are reviewing safety and health guidance weekly
We hope to bring students back into the cafeteria as soon as possible
Please remember to send your child to school dressed for the day’s weather
Need assistance? Contact our office to see how we can help with warm clothing
Parking Lot Safety
Drive slowly and be patient in our school parking lots
Plan for extra time; there are a lot more car drop offs and pick ups than usual
Please stay in the car line, do not pull around cars in line
Help us maintain safety by doing your part
Conferences on Oct. 28-29
Conferences will be held virtually
If you have a special situation where an in-person conference would best serve your child, please contact me, Mr. Kingery, through our office - 503 431-4800
Enjoy a great weekend, and Go Black Bears,
Mr. Kingery
Principal
Packed with Pride Update
Thank you for your patience as Packed with Pride is making another change. Packed with Pride will continue to hand out food boxes at Tigard High, every other Wednesday, 5:30-7:30p, until further notice. Community pick up time is 6:30-7:30pm. Call Veronica Aguilar (503-431-4767) if you have questions or need to make changes.
Picture Day is Coming Soon!
Congratulations Bus #38!

- Masks On
- Followed the bus driver's directions

Congratulations BUS #38. Each student will be given a Bus PAX PAW and an award will be displayed in the bus window.

TITLE I PARENT INVOLVEMENT PLAN AND SCHOOL-HOME ACADEMIC AGREEMENTS
Thank you, parents and staff for all of your recent feedback- our Title I Parent Involvement Plan and School-Home Compact have both been updated and are now final. The Parent Involvement Plan can be found by clicking the link below. It is also linked on the Tualatin Elementary School website.
During the month of October, students will bring home their copy of the School-Home compact. Please read over it with your child and sign it before placing it into their red folder. If you have any questions about the School-Home compact, please reach out to your child’s classroom teacher. We look forward to working in partnership with everyone to support a great year of learning!
We are hiring at Tualatin Elementary! Are you interested?
We are looking for a night monitor to join our custodial staff. The position involves some basic maintenance such as emptying school garbage cans and sweeping the hallways. The position is daily from 2:30-5:30. You will be working with the school district, but be placed here at Tualatin Elementary. We have some flexibility with hours and high school students are able and encouraged to apply. Please reach out to Fausto Puentes at fpuentes@ttsd.k12.or.us if you’re interested.
Every Student On Time Every Day
One of our school’s goals is that we maximize classroom learning time. When your child is on time, everyone wins! Your child is settled in for the day and ready to learn, teachers may teach without interruptions and lessons can begin promptly. Thank you in advance for helping your child arrive at school on time every day.
PTA Volunteers Needed
Interested in getting involved in the school? Needing some adult connection? The PTA is looking for volunteers for the following:
- 5 more people to join the auction committee
- A chair person for the Read-A-Thon
If interested contact the PTA at tualatinpta@gmail.com

News from the Garden
Our school garden is a treasure to behold! Please make it a part of your life here at Tualatin Elementary.
Explore our native plant area. Harvest the produce. Currently we have: tomatoes, asian pears, green beans, apples, wine grapes, cauliflower and chard. Rosemary, thyme, oregano and chives are common herbs that are always in abundance!
To keep our garden thriving and beautiful we also need your support. We are ooking for more volunteers to help care for the garden: trim, mulch compost, water. We also would love to have more committee members to help us keep our garden sustainable. Please contact Paul Taylor (paultaylorocnp@aol.com) or Pam Soderquist (psoderquist@ttsd.k12.or.us) to find out more.
