Anthem
By Ayn Rand
What Anthem is about
The story is about the future where man is never alone. It is a crime to be alone. There is no word called "I" but only "we." Progress has been lost and man has just rediscovered the candle.
What the book wants us to know
The biggest theme that stands out is that Equality 7-2521 is that not all people can be the same. The council forces all men to be equal and punishes all others. Equality takes a step beyond society and breaks laws to find the truth. There is an importance of identity and individual.
Perspective of The Golden One
The Golden One sees Equality as a actual human instead of creatures dwelling the ground.
She praises and follows him. She trusts him for survival in the forest.
Connections
International 4-8818 was loyal to Equality and broke the laws for him. "They stood straight all of a sudden and they answered, "Rather we would die." I would never get my friends in trouble.
What happened to the other people that left to the Uncharted Forest?
I would assume if they went to the Forest they would hunt and explore like Equality-Prometheus. Since the way of living was so obvious to them. "We made a fire, we cooked the bird, and we ate it."
Individualism
The color for individualism is yellow. Everybody is special in their own way
Killing a bird
Killing a bird is the symbol for Anthem. The leading action to the new lifestyle.
