Peek at the Week

January 29 - February 2, 2018

A few things to think about...

"Why waste time proving over and over how great you are, when you could be getting better? Why hide deficiencies instead of overcoming them? Why look for friends or partners who will just shore up your self-esteem instead of ones who will also challenge you to grow? And why seek out the tried and true, instead of experiences that will stretch you? The passion for stretching yourself and sticking to it, even (or especially) when it's not going well, is the hallmark of the growth mindset. This is the mindset that allows people to thrive during some of the most challenging times in their lives." ~ from Mindset by Carol S. Dweck

A growth mindset. It's necessary in the ever-changing world of education. I never would've imagined, even 15 years ago, that we'd be going 1:1 at all, let alone all the way down to first grade! But here we are! I'm proud of each of you for giving it your all. For showing up each day to face the challenges of 'growing' in your work. Our jobs are not easy. But in so many moments throughout the day, when I see the joy on our students' faces when they are handed that new device, or when they stand on the stage and master that song or part they've been working on all month, I'm reminded of why we are here! I hope you find joy in those moments as well. Let's continue to grow together!

It's BUDGET Time!

Y'all know I'm Google-challenged (see above :)), but I tried to create a Google form for you to complete that will give me input about what you need or what you'd like to have next year. I meet with Mr. Wilson and his cabinet on March 1 and need to prepare our budget proposal by February 15th! Please complete this form if you'd like a voice in our budget process. I need all submissions by February 9th. (and if the form isn't working, let me know)

Guided Math

As you know, we've been 'professionally developed' in the area of guided math all year. But the training is officially over and it's time to put our training to work! In the coming weeks, you will be observed not only by Mr. Cobbs and myself, but by some of our district instructional staff. They want to see the great work that we are doing in the area of math, but this is also our opportunity to receive feedback that will help us GROW. (notice a theme yet?)

Guided math plans should be kept in a notebook on your guided reading/math table daily. These are not optional. Small group plans are essential to effective instruction. I've asked Mr. Cobbs and Mrs. Maness to create some guided math templates that they will share with you during your GLP this week.

On Thursday, February 15th, class pictures will be taken. At 3:00, after car dismissal, I'd like to gather the entire staff for a North Pointe staff photo. Please be here! This photo will be in our yearbook.

Miss Nelson is Missing!

Thanks to Mrs. Hodges, you and your students are invited to enjoy the Children's Theater production of Miss Nelson is Missing! The performance will be held on Thursday, February 8th here at North Pointe in the auditorium.

8:30 - 4K, 5K, 1st and 2nd grades / Green

9:45 - 3rd grade - 5th grade / Cary
