The Week in Snapshots
Fall sports are up and running. Here, the Girl's Volleyball team battles hard in their first home game against Classical Academy.
Digital Photography students use Design Thinking to create their own functioning cameras. Hands-on, engaging learning throughout the class period!
Mrs. McGuire's students designed their own experiment models to test the density and buoyancy differences between freshwater and saltwater ice.
Back to School Night is September 8th (Virtual Event)
All families are invited to join us for a Zoom Webinar at 6pm, that I will be hosting. This is an opportunity to get a general overview of the Fall term and to hear from leaders of key departments and services on campus. Following the webinar, families will have an opportunity to "visit" classes by clicking on the teacher video links listed in a shared document (shared the day before BTSN).
Deadline to Submit Grade Changes per AB 104 Extended until Aug. 30th
In the August 4th Community Update to all VUSD stakeholders, our District shared information about how CA recently enacted a new law, Assembly Bill 104, that will expand learning and credit recovery options for students who may have struggled academically during the 2020-2021 school year, including:
A process for high school students to change eligible grades to Pass/No Pass
Exemption from district graduation requirements for students in grades 11 or 12 who were not on track to graduate
Students who earned D's can elect to change those grades to "Pass" and students who earned F's can change those grades to No Pass. Neither P nor NP marks will factor into the GPA.
**Grade change applications for the 2021-2022 school year are due to the Main Office by 3pm on Monday, August 30th.

PACK Tutoring is Coming Back!
Beginning Tuesday, September 7th, Mission Vista High School will begin our after-school tutoring program, The PACK (Perseverance, Achievement, Curiosity, & Knowledge). The PACK will run Tuesday-Thursday in the Library from 2:50-3:50 p.m. Mission Vista teachers from several subject areas will be on hand to help any interested students, and 11th and 12th-grade students from our California Scholarship Federation (CSF) club will also be available to assist students. Busing will be available each day for students with a valid bus pass.
School community members can also follow up-to-the-minute data on our District's COVID-19 Dashboard.
During the past week (since Monday), MVHS had 1 new case of COVID-19 among students/staff members.
What Happens if My Student is Sent Home to Quarantine?
Students on quarantine should check their Canvas tiles daily for key information and assignments for each course. Additionally, a staff member will check in with all students at noon daily to ensure they have access to what they need. In some cases, students will be invited to work on coursework (namely math, English, and social studies) during the check-in sessions.
Students who have specific questions are encouraged to contact teachers directly. All students on quarantine are entitled to an opportunity to make up any work missed.
Work Permit Renewals
If you are currently employed, your work permit is likely expired (as of 8/23). If you are planning on working throughout the year for the same employer, email Mr. Faraimo or visit the Career Center and he will send you an updated work permit; firstname.lastname@example.org
