WHPS Remote Learning High School
September 18 Update
Updates for September 18th
Dear High School Families,
Good afternoon Remote High School Families,
As we close out the second week of the school year my hope is that accessing and navigating through the remote learning platform is becoming a bit easier for you and your child. With that said, I also appreciate that this may still be a work in progress for some as we have added in our advisory meetings and many of you have had changes to your schedules. To support you in navigating this new normal, I will continue to provide you resources to assist in the planning process for your week ahead.
I also wanted to let you know that it has been great getting to meet so many of you at the material pick-up locations these last two days. I appreciate hearing how things are going in your children’s classes and am happy so many of you are having a positive experience. I also appreciate that you are willing to let me know when things are not going so well so we can work to improve our process to meet the needs of all students and families. These interactions have energized me and helped me contextualize the things that are working well and those areas that require our focus for greater improvement.
I would ask that you take some time to review the updates and information below.
Have a great weekend and stay safe,
Dr. Kessler
Scheduling Resources
To continue to help families navigate the changing weekly schedule I am including a template that allows you to add in your teacher meeting link codes in order to more easily determine which classes you have and at what day and time. Please feel free to make a copy of this and fill it out with information related to your specific schedule.

SATs- Wednesday, September 23
Grade 12 Students
West Hartford has partnered with the Connecticut State Department of Education and the College Board to arrange for Class of 2021 students to take a free SAT next Wednesday, September 23, 2020 from 7:30am until 11:30am. Students testing with extra time will dismiss from testing at approximately 1:30 pm. No registration is required and tests have been ordered for all seniors. Testing will take place in person at your sending school. Participation is not required, however we recognize that most seniors have not been able to test yet at all, and this is a great opportunity to complete a key piece of the post-high school planning process.
Room assignments will be emailed to students on Monday, September 21st. Please know that we are following WHPS guidelines for physical distancing. Remote students will be grouped into a cohort and will test in a separate area of the school. The capacity of each room will be 12 students. Masks are mandatory for all students and staff. Remote students will need to provide their own transportation to and from the school.
If you would like to take the SAT, but are unable to secure transportation, please contact me at timothy_kessler@whps.org.
Schedule for students in Grades 9-11.
Given the large number of staff in the remote school who will be assisting to proctor the SATs, classes will not formally meet on September 23rd. Teachers will be posting assignments to their Google Classrooms for students to work on asynchronously throughout the day. Teachers who are not proctoring will be available during their regular class meeting times for you to stop in and ask questions. Teachers will communicate what their availability is for that day earlier that week.
Grab and Go Meals
Our grab and go meal program is available to all families and breakfast and lunch continue to be free for all WHPS students. See the attached flyer for more information.
Principal’s Coffee Update
Thank you to those who were able to attend the Principal Coffee session this Thursday. It was great to get to meet many of you and help us move forward on how to make our remote school the best it can be. Our next Coffee sessions will be on Thursday, October 22. When the time gets closer, I will be sure to send out a reminder and link for these sessions.
