How is it spread?
Can be spread through food and water that has been contaminated with fecal matter.
Symptoms
- Watery diarrhea (Explosive Diarrhea)
- Bloating, gas, stomach cramps
- Loss of appetite
- Low grade fever
- Fatigue

History
- Cyclospora was first identified in North America in 1977 from contaminated water.
- An outbreak occurred in the early 1990's when people began becoming infected with these flu-like symptoms in the early 1990's. The large amounts of cyclospora being found in U.S. residents was found to come from raspberries that has been contaminated with fecal matter.
Prevention
- Drinking Bottled water or boiled water when traveling.
- Avoid fresh produce / wash fruits and vegetables.
