Dear Families,

Do you feel like this school year is flying by? It's going too fast for me. Before I knew it, my calendar showed that April was ending. Where did March go? As of this newsletter's debut, there are 24 more days of school. Before the 2022-23 school year ends, allow me to catch you up on just some of the wonderful events that took place in March and April. I will also update you, at the end of the newsletter, about the last days of the school year. The days are PACKED with events, so take your time and mark your calendars!

Thank You, LCFEF!

The La Cañada Flintridge Educational Foundation held its biggest fundraiser of the year on March 18 at Vibiana in Downtown Los Angeles. Governing Board Member Caroline Anderson received the award for Spirit of Outstanding Service. Funds raised will go toward furthering our district's goal of providing resources for Wellness Spots. LCE is enjoying a successful pilot program with our Wellness Room, The Spot. In the photo above, an upper grade student group is planning a mural for the space.

LCE World Fair

LCE's PTA is the best! Thanks to many amazing volunteers, the students got to visit the annual World's Fair. They learned about the countries of Columbia, the Philippines, Jordan, Argentina, France, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Community Read-In

Our PTA also organized the 2023 Community Read-In in March. Members of the community visited and read to the students. Our school is fortunate to have so many distinguished community members of La Cañada who visit each year. The readers featured here are local Writer Chris Erskine and LCUSD Associate Superintendent Jamie Lewsadder.

April Events

April at LCE

April started with a week off for Spring Break. When students returned, we had a Parent-Child Lunch on Thursday, April 13. Fortunately, many families were able to attend. Unfortunately, it rained! 2nd graders got to go on a field trip to the Cabrillo Marine Aquarium. PTA hosted Art Week and Earth Week, so students had fun outside of class with activities. Our 3rd - 6th-grade students started their CAASPP testing, and the rest of the school tried to stay quiet so that they weren't disturbed. Grade Level Music Performances started in April, thanks to Mr. Leonard and LCFEF. 4th - 6th-grade students competed in Science Olympiad and came in 5th place overall! Finally, students recognized Armenian Genocide Remembrance Day in age-appropriate ways.

This Just In!

The LCE 5th-grade team represented LCUSD in Math Olympiad on April 29. Led by Mrs. Drange, the students took the bronze for problem-solving, the silver for conceptual understanding, the gold for procedural computation, and they were in the top three overall!
