On the Trail - Mustang Families
Oct. 25-29
Rainy Days are here!
It was so great to have some rain again!
Our Mustangs did a great job being back in the MP for the first time in a long time. Students were respectful to each other and seemed appreciative for options to stay out of the weather/wet grass. Thank you to the ASB students who helped get the popups up again.
The pop ups held up and will be out unless there is too much wind of course.
Overall, it went really well thanks to everyone!
There are some main areas we are working to improve over these next few weeks:
*too many students are tardy even with 10 minute passing period
in the works:
phone calls home, vital assignments in the first 5 minutes in all classes and those with habitual tardies will be required to attend after school Core Values Skill Building - more info coming soon - let's be on time!
Teachers are asked to not have students out for the first 15 minutes- this helps us figure out who is tardy and ten minute passing periods make it easy to use the restroom before class.
Parents/Guardians - please check your student attendance in Parentvue and have conversations with them about the importance of being on time
*trash is left on the ground by some students
actions:
additional garbage cans are provided
students will be helping pick up trash as admin find them leaving trash behind, additional consequences as appropriate
Parents/Guardians, please speak to your students about finding a trash can and leaving spaces as clean as when they arrived
*play fighting and tag games are resulting in injury and issues
actions:
phone calls home, parent conferences and additional consequences as appropriate
Parents/Guardians - please speak to your students about appropriate behavior at a school campus - we want to keep them safe and play fighting leads to real fighting in many cases when someone accidentally hits too hard
*students out of class without passes and/or wandering
actions:
students without a pass are sent back to class to get a pass
phone calls home, parent conferences and additional consequences as appropriate
Staff is asked to only all one student out at a time and be sure they have a pass
We will keep working on these items as we go and are grateful to all who help along the way - #onetrail
More rain is predicted this week so we will remind everyone to stay dry, leave the house a little earlier for traffic concerns and enjoy the change in temperature as we continue to do our best together as a Mustang community.
Go Mustangs!
LCAP needs survey - we want your voice represented: students Oct 25 at start of 2nd period, parents/guardians asap please
We need the valued input for the EGUSD LCAP plan from all stakeholders. Everyone’s voice is important and needed to be able to ensure the goals and funding go to meet the needs of our community. The survey link for students and for staff are below and instructions were shared with us today to send to you right away.
The survey only takes 10 minutes to complete. To make that easier and avoid yet again impacting advocacy with regards to students, we ask that:
Monday, Oct. 25th at the start of second period, please use the first 10 minutes to have all students complete this link. We will skip the reading of the bulletin to accomplish this and barely take any class time. They only need to do it once. Any absent will receive the link in synergy but the expectation is we do our best to hit 100% of students:
- Our goal is 100% of our school’s students providing input. The survey link is noted below:
For all parents/guardians:

Elk Grove Unified recognizes Oct. 23 – Oct. 31 as Red Ribbon Week. This year’s theme, “Drug Free Looks Like Me” is a reminder that everyday Americans across the country make significant daily contributions to their communities by being the best they can be because they live Drug-Free.
EGUSD will continue to make alcohol, tobacco and other drug abuse prevention a high priority and will support a comprehensive research-based plan of action it has already adopted to assist students who are suffering from the effects of alcohol, tobacco and other drug abuse and to make school campuses a safe harbor from drugs.

Important Items for Mustang Success
Conflict Mediation - refer someone else or self refer
Struggling students? Reporting incidents or concerns
- refer students in "drama" or in "need" to conflict mediation
- seek help by connecting with counselors or admin as needed
Students can self refer to conflict mediation as well. See the form above for referrals.
Remind students of our Anonymous Incident Reporting system on our website. It allows for anonymous reporting of bullying, self harm, violence, harassment and more. If the person allows us, we can also communicate two way to get additional details while they still remain anonymous if they choose.

If you see something, say something
There have been small groups of students doing damage not only to our campus but to businesses as well. In addition, a few have unfortunately been misrepresenting while interacting with adults in the community, too. Then, we add the damage and problems associated with the Tik Tok challenges and the poor behaviors on InstaGram to the problem. This is not how any of us want our school represented and it paints such a bad picture when this is such a great place to be.
Yet, we know there are so many more students, several thousands at MT, who are doing the right thing and representing MTHS in an awesome light! We are so proud of you and thank you for having Integrity, Respect and Confidence building up the Community!
So to help us continue this, please remember to tell an adult if you see something so that we can help everyone on our campus and off campus as well. And, keep doing what is right Mustangs and treat others how you would expect to be treated. You Matter and All of our Mustangs and Community Matter. Let's show the world how great it is to be a Mustang!
WELLNESS and Self-Care and Support

COVID
Daily to protocols:
- Wear Masks indoors - mandatory regardless of vaccination status
- Hand wash and sanitize often - entrance/exit of rooms
- Have up to date daily seating charts/group charts, and accurate attendance records - this matters so much
- Do not come to school if you have symptoms - staff contact admin and students/families contact the school for admin to then follow protocols directed by nurses in contact with the county and health authorities
- Recommended wear masks in large groups outdoors - our lunch and passing periods for example
- Help remind students of the protocols as you pass by and in your classrooms/offices, etc.
