In Music Department News . . .
Music students have been working on learning how to compose a melody. Not just any melody, but one that will sound good to the piano part that was given to them. They now have the skills to compose something that will sound beautiful. This week their composition skills will be put to the test. They are starting their composition project, where they will write a piece of music using any instrument they want. I am looking forward and excited to see what they create! If you have a music student ask them to share with you what they have composed, you will be amazed! Take a listen to these students' work so far by clicking their names: Rowan Minnick, Cameron Farrell, Isabel Long, and Virgina Tubandt.
Drama students have been asked to prepare and perform their monologues. First they learned what a character was and how they were going to create one themselves. Then they learned how to write a monologue and created a story about the character they created. This week they performed their monologues using Flipgrid, then put their audio to their characters' pictures. Take a look at some of our students' performances! Click the students names to be redirected to their monologues: Jebby Brewer and Jayden Ruelas.
In Advisory News . . .
Our daily Advisory period is going great! Students are really enjoying our read aloud of the novel Ghost. September is Suicide Prevention Month and Advisory teachers have been facilitating discussions around suicide prevention all month. Students and staff have been sharing positive messages and things to be hopeful about.
Next week we will be continuing our lessons on conflict resolution and teaching students strategies for effectively dealing with conflicts. The work on conflict resolution directly connects to the topics in Ghost and advisory teachers are guiding students to make connections to the novel and to their own lives. The students are working in these small groups to connect and discuss the sensitive issues in the novel in a safe environment.
