CAR RIDER & DISMISSAL PROCEDURES
RESPONSIBLE, PATIENT DRIVERS = SAFE STUDENTS
THIS YEAR'S CAR LINE - MORNINGS and AFTERNOONS
Spearman Car Rider Parents,
We continue to try and make our car line move as quickly as possible, with our first priority being student SAFETY.
2020-21 CHANGES and HIGHLIGHTS
- We are excited that for the first time we will have 2 car circles for afternoon dismissal.
- We will be using a system called SCHOOL DISMISSAL MANAGER to help assist in our dismissal process.
Thank you for your patience and understanding as we unload and load over 400 car riders each day. Please know any policies or procedures put in place here at Spearman are for the purpose of doing what is in the best interest of children and their safety.
MORNING CAR RIDER DROP-OFF PROCEDURES- ALL CARS WILL USE FRONT CAR CIRLE (as normal)
*ALL MORNING CAR RIDERS WILL BE DROPPED OF IN THE FRONT CAR CIRCLE at the white awning at end of car line.
ENTERING CAR CIRCLE (same as last year)
- Cars must come from Campbell Rd. / Spearman Road and TURN LEFT into the car circle. (YOU MAY NOT COME FROM HWY 8 and turn right).
EXITING CAR CIRCLE (same as last year)
- All cars must TURN RIGHT when they exit car circle.
PROCEDURES
- ALL MORNING CAR RIDERS WILL BE DROPPED OF IN THE FRONT CAR CIRCLE at the white awning at end of car line.
- Students can be dropped off at 7:20 am-8:00 am.
- Temperature will be taken in the car line for every student before they are dropped off.
- The early car riders go to the classroom and sit outside in hallway on a SPOT (spots 6ft. apart) where they get to read, play their ipad and are supervised by teachers. Each homeroom teacher will then direct students into their classroom once spots are full (approx. 7:40 am).
*DUE TO COVID-19 SAFETY PRECAUTIONS PARENTS WILL NOT BE ABLE TO WALK THEIR CHILD INTO THE BUILDING THIS YEAR (Even on the first day....sorry). However, the district is allowing K5 parents to walk their child in on their first day (ONLY.
**Please know, if most of the 400 cars decide to arrive at school between 7:45-8:00 am, the car line will inevitably get backed up leading to late arrivals. The more cars that arrive early and the more spread out the car riders are, the less backed up the car line will become.
TEMPERATURE TAKING
- When a staff member approaches your car in the car line, please roll down your child's window. Please wait to roll the window down until the staff member approaches so that your child doesn't get "hot" while waiting.
- Have your child keep their mask on at all times during this process.
- Their temperatures will be taken on their forehead so some students may have to pull their hair back for a moment.
- Once their temperature is ALL CLEAR (anything less than 100 degrees) they can exit the car and enter the building.
- 99 degrees and BELOW IS GOOD TO GO!
If a student has a temperature 100 degrees or over.....
- Staff member will ask you to park for a moment and they will re-take the temperature again a few minutes later.
- If on the second attempt a temperature is still shown, you will be asked to see the school nurse to take the temperature orally. You will then follow the next appropriate steps.
*SEE TEMPERATURE TAKING VIDEO BELOW.
AFTERNOON CAR RIDER PICK-UP PROCEDURES
- FRONT CAR CIRCLE (Kindergarten-2nd Grade)
- BACK CAR CIRCLE (3rd-5th grade)
- All 3rd-5th graders who have a younger K-2nd grade sibling will join their younger sibling and be picked up in the FRONT CAR CIRCLE.
PROCEDURES
- DISMISSAL is at 2:00 pm
- Please wait as close to 2:00 pm as possible to arrive so the back-up into the road is held to a minimum.
- Please have your child's car tag and PIN # ready and visible when you come through the car line.
- BE PREPARED TO PROVIDE YOUR CHILD'S PIN NUMBER (from School Dismissal Manager info at bottom page) as you approach the Staff Member in the car line. We will help you through this process the first few days until we get the hang of it.
- TO ASSIST THE LOADING PROCESS, PLEASE KEEP YOUR CAR TAG VISIBLE THROUGH THE ENTIRE CAR LINE
- Always TURN RIGHT when exiting the car line.
*SAFETY GUIDELINES* IF YOU DO NOT HAVE A PIN # (from School Dismissal Manager) and/or a CAR TAG, you will be asked to park and show your ID before we load your child. This process may take a while, so please come prepared with your unique Security PIN # and/or Car tag.

SCHOOL DISMISSAL MANAGER (FASTLANE)
Parents,
You should have received an email message from us in regard to School Dismissal Manager (SDM). This is the system we will use this year if you need to change your child's transportation (please do so BEFORE 1:00 P.M. daily). Additionally, we will use the FASTLANE feature for afternoon car dismissal.
Anyone picking up a student should be prepared to say/display the unique PIN/Parent Number provided. We will be sending you your child's unique PIN # if you don't already have it. It is important that all families log in, using the web based version or App, and configure this information so that it is accurate. You must choose a default setting for your student regardless of whether your child is a car rider, bus rider, or attends a daycare. If you have specific questions, please call Meagan in the front office at 864-947-9787 or email her at grandm@apps.anderson1.org.
This is a new system, and with any new system comes an adjustment period, but we are excited about the many features offered and the ability for this program to make our dismissal safer and more efficient. Thanks for your help and patience!
WHAT IS IT?
A system designed to make school dismissal more efficient while also allowing parents to make transportation changes without having to notify the school office directly. During dismissal parents will give school employee a unique PIN # identifying that you are permitted to pick your child. You can share your PIN # with those who you allow to pick up your child.
HOW CAN I USE IT?
Parents can.....
- Update daily changes to your child's method of transportation (car, bus, YMCA, etc.)
- Obtain a unique PIN # that can be shared with those who will be picking up your child.
- Add the names of those permitted to pick up your child.
YOUR NEXT STEPS
- Click on this link to access the SDM Website: https://www.schooldismissalmanager.com/
- Follow the directions on the SDM email you received from Spearman/ School Dismissal Manager. If you didn't receive the Welcome Email from SDM, please check your spouses email first. Check your spam. If you still can not find it please email Meagan in the front office at grandm@apps.anderson1.org and she can help you.
- Download the APP to your smartphone.
** This needs to be completed before the first day of school if at all possible.
HELPFUL HINTS TO HELP YOUR MORNINGS AND AFTERNOONS MOVE AS QUICKLY AND SAFELY AS POSSIBLE:
- Give yourself plenty of time each morning.
- Have your child prepared to exit the car (book bag ready, lunch money, papers signed, etc).
- Have your car seats and booster seats on the appropriate side of the car for your child to enter or exit.
- Please inform anyone who may be dropping off or picking up your child of the car line procedures (grandparents, neighbors, etc.)
- Teach your child to buckle and unbuckle themselves. If you need to assist them, please pull forward past spot number 1 to buckle them. This keeps the car line moving.
- Practice with your child how to enter and exit the car BY THEMSELVES. Safety patrol and staff will be somewhat limited in how much we can help due to COVID-19 saftey precautions.
- Stay off of your cell phone as you're unloading or loading your child.
- Please wait as close to 2:00 pm as possible to arrive so we do not back up onto the road for too long and too far down the road.
Thank You
I truly appreciate your support, understanding and patience.
