1. The best way to predict the future is to create it

Finally...good morning all.

I've had a few technical issues this week with my online newsletter platform. However, I'm glad to be able to finally share the past week's experiences with you. So much seems to have happened since then. Who would have thought we'd be throwing a couple of snow days into the mix, too.

It just goes to show...you can't predict the future. However, you can create it.

Have a lovely week,

Mr Francksen

Executive Headteacher

2. Rowan's Adventures...

It’s been a very different kind of week. Mrs Boyd has been poorly (not the virus) so Rowan Class have been looked after by Mrs Elliott and a very royal supply teacher.

3. Hazel's Exploits...

The children have been learning lots of different spelling strategies this week to help them remember some of the words they find more difficult; have you decided which one is your favourite? We have now started a new topic in maths and are focusing on statistics, in particular tally charts and pictograms. The children have done really well with their learning and produced some excellent work. We have now finished our unit of work on information texts about witches so look out for something new next week!

4. Oak's Endeavours...

We have enjoyed reading ‘The Day the Crayons Quit’ and hearing from the point of view of an inanimate object - the crayons! Each colour has a different character and all are quite put out about their treatment! It has been lovely getting outside lots this week. Children made their own catapults. Those in school filmed and edited a video lesson to help home learners with this.

5. Thank you for the donation

This week we received a £100 donation (from an anonymous source) towards local church schools from Blackbourne Team Ministry. A huge thank you from all at Bardwell. This will enable us to purchase some IT accessories for our Chromebooks.

6. Wellie Racks

Well done, Ted, for these awesome homemade wellie racks. These have been made from the Robinia tree that was removed from our front playground. Thanks to the Allman's, too. They were involved somewhat.

7. Our new voicemail stars

Mrs Allman has asked each Y6 pupil to be the star of our voicemail greeting, taking it in turns to change the recording every few weeks so they all get the chance to do it (if they’d like to!). The first to volunteer is Tilly, so if you phone the school and get our voicemail, it will be Tilly’s voice you hear.

8. Webber’s Warriors

WOW! what a week the warriors have had.

I have been so impressed with the children and their commitment to learning at home following the Bardwell Behaviour Cogs showing resilience, Kind communicating, and being Aspirational.

Each and every one of them has shown a remarkable eagerness to learn with a positive attitude and unfailing spirit.

Keep up the great work!

Mrs W.

9. Returning to school next week? - Here’s what you need to know

We’ve got a few more children returning to school next week - we are looking forward to seeing you.

  • Please wear your usual school uniform, but do wear layers as the school has lots of doors and windows open for ventilation.

  • Ensure you have a waterproof coat and gloves/hat to put on for OPAL - Outdoor Play and Learning.

  • Also, keep a pair of wellies and spare socks in school - our Breckland pingo pond is very full at the moment and there are plenty of muddy puddles to play in.

  • Usual school hours - drop off from 8.35 am, the school gate is closed at 8.45 am. The County Council taxi services will drop off from 8.30-8.35am so avoid the main gate at that time. Please say goodbye to your child at the gate, children in YR/Y1 can be taken to their classroom door but please maintain a 2m distance from others as you do so. Pick up is at 3 pm, you are welcome to wait on the playground at a 2m distance from others. Only 1 adult to pick up please, to avoid overcrowding.

  • Pupils only need a water bottle and book bag in school, no other items from home.

  • If you have a Chromebook on loan and are returning full time, please return your Chromebook too. If you are attending part-time, you will need to keep hold of your Chromebook for your remote learning days.

  • School dinners are being provided following the regular menu, don’t forget that you can have a jacket potato or a school packed lunch - just let your teacher know at registration.

  • Our full Risk Assessment is available online or from the link at the top of any page on our website.

  • After School Club is available on Monday, Tuesday and Friday - book it, as usual, via Arbor.
