Lead Learner Highlights

We are entering our 3rd week of school, and I'm happy to say that we are in the swing of things. Our open houses will be in the next two weeks so please look out for phone calls from your child's morning advisory teacher and invitations from your child. Intramurals have started and it is wonderful to see the building alive with students engaged in activities in the morning before school and in the afternoon. We want students to try something new or delve into a passion at KP. If there is something of interest that is not listed, please share it with us or better yet, encourage your child to share it with me. Teams are gearing up for their team building trips over the next month so please complete all field trip requirements so that all students can attend. This is a wonderful opportunity for students to learn about themselves, their peers and the adults at KP to support them all year.

Enjoy these summer weather days and we'll see you on Monday.

6th Grade Families

We are implementing our social emotional learning practices. Today, students started working in their morning advisories on their grade level charters for how they want to feel in school.

The Charter is an agreement about how students want to feel as part of school life. The Charter names specific behaviors likely to evoke and support those feelings, and includes constructive ways of handling conflict. It is a powerful tool to encourage personal and social responsibility to work together towards creating the kind of emotional climate that everyone wants. When the charter is complete it will be displayed, signed by all 6th graders, and revisited often over time.

Student Opportunities

KP Student Information

Student council this year will be set up with three representatives from each team. We are going to start with only 7th and 8th graders, and then have the 6th graders join at the beginning of 2017. Students are invited to apply using an application form handed out by their morning advisory teachers. In addition the application was shared electronically with students. Please encourage your 7th or 8th grader to consider this leadership opportunity.

Over the past few years, hundreds of middle school and high school students from around the state have participated in this unique, all girls, by-invitation-only event. The program will include exhibits and demos from Connecticut manufacturers and higher education institutions, hands-on activities, competitions, giveaways, and a very special panel of successful women in the manufacturing industry.

We have registered for the full allotment of 25 spots. If your child is interested, please have her check her email and register on the google form. If we receive more than 25 interested students, we will hold a lottery.
