A Peek at Our Week
Writing:This week, students added a real photograph to one of their best All About books. We are working on making sure our writing is easy to read by using an editing checklist. Students are working to include capital letters and punctuation. They are monitoring their sentence structure by making sure their sentences make sense. Finally, they are using their spelling strategies and word wall words to spell words the best they can. Next week, we will celebrate our All About unit by sharing our best books with our classmates.
Math:This week, students learned an easier way to draw a math picture! We practiced drawing quick tens to represent a 2 digit number. Quick tens use lines to represent the tens and circles to represent the ones. For example, the number 34 would be drawn with 3 vertical lines for the tens and 4 circles for the ones. Students are learning that we can compare two digit numbers and describe them using the words greater than and less than. An example of quick tens is below.
Word Study: This week, we reviewed all vowels with a "Momma e". We worked with the long vowels in words such as skate, cake, bite, smile, joke, rode, flute, rule, etc. Next week, we will move on to other long vowel spelling patterns, starting with <ai> and <ay>.
