Media Specialist Intern
Amanda Jackson
Meet Ms. Hughes' New Library Intern:
My name is Amanda Jackson and I will be working with Ms. Hughes in the library as her new intern for the next 10 weeks. This internship is a part of my final class towards a Masters in Information and Library Science. My goal is to graduate from University of South Carolina in May 2014 and begin working as a school media specialist in the fall. Along with working on my masters, I am also a second grade teacher at Brook Glenn Elementary in Taylors. My husband and I both grew up in Greenville but met at Presbyterian College when we were undergrads. We now live in Greer with our three children. We will celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary next month! Our daughter just began high school this fall, our older son is in the 7th grade and our youngest son is a second grader. When I have free time I love to read, run, walk and spend time with my family in the mountains or at the lake. I am very excited to have the opportunity to work with Ms. Hughes and the teachers and students at Beck Academy! Some of my goals during my internship include - working to promote reading, assisting with technology, and collaborating with teachers. I am willing to help in any way that I can. Please do not hesitate to contact me if there is anything you need.
Some ways that I can help...
Collaboration
If you want to create an exciting research project for your students but are not sure where to start, I can help you with that. I would love to collaborate with you to develop your plan. You can bring your students to the library or I can come to your room to co-teach the lesson with you.
Research
I can assist students with research projects or set up pathfinders for you to use with your class. I am also happy to gather materials or resources to support your unit of study.
Web 2. 0 Tools
There are so many fun and useful web 2.0 tools that are available for students to use. Let me help you find one that will fit your needs.
Sample Pathfinder and Classroom Blog:
Below are links to samples of a pathfinder and a blog that I created for a second grade unit. The students used the pathfinder to research their topic. The blog was created as a way for students to creatively share with classmates what they learned during their research.
