The Country of Madagascar
My French speaking country is Madagascar. Madagascar is the fourth biggest island nation after Greenland, New Guinea and Borneo. It is located off the southeast coast of Africa and is most known for it's diverse animal life.

History of Madagascar
First off, the island of Madagascar wasn't always an island. In a catastrophic earthquake, it broke free from the continent of Africa. The island was first known to Europeans after being sighted in 1500 by a Portuguese ship on the new route to India, but it is not until a century later that much outside attention is paid to the place. The French made the island a protectorate in 1885, and then, in 1895, ended the monarchy. Madagascar is a Francophone country, and French is spoken among the educated population of this former French colony. But, after almost a century under French control, Madagascar declared independence from France in 1960.
Famous for...
Madagascar, the fourth largest island in the world, is well known for its cash crops pepper and vanilla & its diverse animal life, mainly their lemurs.
