Message from Dr. Frischkorn
Good Evening Mayfield!
October is National Bullying Prevention Month. Here at Mayfield, our staff works tirelessly to support our students and address any concerns that they may have. Oftentimes, if students and parents notify staff in a quick manner if their child is having an issue with another student, we are able to address the situation and remediate the conflict before it ever escalates to a bullying situation.
If you want to learn more about bullying, you can visit www.stopbullying.gov to learn more. Below, you can read the definition of bullying.
What Is Bullying
Bullying is unwanted, aggressive behavior among school-aged children that involves a real or perceived power imbalance. The behavior is repeated or has the potential to be repeated over time. Both kids who are bullied and who bully others may have serious, lasting problems.
To be considered bullying, the behavior must be aggressive and include:
- An Imbalance of Power: Kids who bully use their power to control or harm others, such as physical strength, access to embarrassing information, or popularity. Power imbalances can change over time and in different situations, even if they involve the same people.
- Repetition: Bullying behaviors happen more than once or have the potential to happen more than once.
Always Learning!
