Think Kids Community Conversations:
Our Schools, Our Community, Our Future
Thanks to all who participated in the Think Kids Community Conversation this year. From education equity to budgets; early childhood, middle and high school opportunities to classroom technology, your voice is important.
Thanks to all who are participating through the Online Survey, too. The Think Kids Survey and Education Equity Framework Survey will remain open through Saturday March 31. http://www.isd709.org/home/2018-think-kids
They will be performing on stage with Foreigner and the Dave Eggar Orchestra on Wednesday night April 4. The band will donate $500 to their program and Music Go Round in Duluth will match that donation. Congratulations, Denfeld Maroon 16, Ordean East/East Choirs and all who participated. Thanks to all who provided support to these talented students!
Duluth East Robotics Team Receives 2018 Chairman’s Award, Head to World Competition
The FIRST Robotics Chairman’s Award is given to one team that best exemplifies the values and goals of FIRST and is a team to emulate. This is the second time the Daredevils have received the Award, they now qualify to compete at the World Championships in Detroit, Michigan in April.

LEGO Challenge Club at Laura MacArthur
Students take on engineering design challenges and build solutions using LEGO bricks. It's all part of the weekly LEGO Challenge Club at Laura MacArthur Elementary! Thank you, Cal Harris, for the photos and info.Kaleb Robison, Build Team Captain for the Denfeld Robotics Team, was honored by the Duluth School Board this month. Kaleb received the FIRST Robotics Dean’s List Finalist Award, recognizing outstanding student leaders. Kaleb will attend the World Robotics Championships in Detroit next month to compete with other Dean’s List finalists.
Students from Homecroft and Lester Park Elementaries were at the Board meeting to celebrate Music in Our Schools month with a beautiful rendition of "My Country 'Tis of Thee." Thank you students, families and teacher Kristen Paschen!

Students participated in Duluth & St. Louis County Days at the Capitol in March, touring the Capitol building, learning about the High School Page program and meeting with a Duluth East grad who now works as a legislative aid for a state senator. Students met with Representative Liz Olson and Senator Erik Simonson during their visit, many thanks for the opportunity!
KEY Zone 2018-19 School Year Registration Begins in April
KEY Zone is a high quality out of school time program, committed to offering a fun, safe, and engaging environment for children after school and during school and summer breaks.
Children have opportunities to explore hands-on activities in the arts, science, outdoor education and healthy living. Brain games and activities are incorporated into all programming through clubs, field trips, academic enrichment and homework support, including mentoring and tutoring
- During the school year K.E.Y. Zone runs in all nine Duluth Elementary Schools Monday-Friday from 2:15PM-6:00PM.
- During break weeks, K.E.Y. Zone runs 6:30AM-6:00PM at select sites.
