ClassDojo

It is meant to help encourage behaviour and skills in the classroom and also keeps children's parents involved in the class as well, benefiting teachers and students. This app can allow teachers to give students instant encouragement, allows both students and teachers to view academic progress, and can allow for customization of skills important to the classroom.

Example

A real life example of using this app in the classroom could involve a parent being up to date with what is going on in the classroom, along with viewing progress through the mobile use, thus eliminating all of the paper coming home by the student.

Evernote

Whether you are a teacher or student, Evernote can help organize your information and sync it all between your devices, whether it is a mobile phone, your tablet/iPad, or computer. Duolingo

Description

This app is very interesting and can be very useful inside and out of the classroom. It is meant to help support and encourage those learning a new language and is available for those wanting to learn English, French, Spanish, German, and Italian, to name only a few! Duolingo can help with language development by providing information on spelling, sounds and pronunciations, and other fun and tactical methods of learning.

Example

Duolingo can be used to help support and encourage students in your classroom with the new language they are learning. Say, for example, a student new to learning French is struggling with the new sounds of certain words; this app can be used to help with comprehension and the phonics of the language!

Edmodo

Description

This app is commonly used in the education system and can be used by teachers, students, and even parents. This education-based app allows for teachers to connect with their students and parents in meaningful ways in the twenty-first century, and allows for the collaboration of all parties to help increase the chances of student success. Through collaboration, connection, communication, and further discussion, classrooms can be secured for teachers, students, and parents. Edmodo can be used for posting assignments, grading and assessing student work, and as an educational resource library as well.

Example

Teachers can mark student's work and post questions and information on the Edmodo app and can be accessed anytime and anywhere, so long as you have the app. When the teacher "invites" a parent to the Edmodo app, they can then be available to view their student progress as well.

Nearpod

Description

This educational app is a meant-to-have app for all teachers and schools as it allows for teachers to manage content on student's iPads, iPhones, and other technological devices, making interaction and collaboration more successful. It can be used to draw with, answer multiple choice questions teachers set up, and even assess student work.

Example

If a teacher asks students to answer a question posted to the app and a student is missing from class (at an appointment let's say), they can still access content away from the school, so long as they have the classroom pin number, therefore limiting missing information learned by his/her peers. They just have to have the app and class pin number provided by the teacher and then they can access the school material on their device.
