April 2021 HHASD Newsletter
Inspire. Persevere. Grow.
Thank you for tuning in. We hope you have a wonderful month. We are here to support you, so if there is anything you need at any time, just let us know!
Dear HHASD Family,
I hope that as you read this, you are enjoying a much-deserved spring break. Whether that means travel, or a "staycation," I hope that you are able to relax, enjoy time with family and friends, and stay safe and well.
Please know that for the first week of school after spring break (April 6th - 9th), if your child(ren) are feeling symptomatic, you may contact the school office, and notify them of the symptoms and in turn, the office will notify teachers of your child's intent to attend virtually. This will give your child(ren) an opportunity to learn safely while at home, making sure they are feeling alright before physically returning to school. It will also help us keep our schools fully operational and avoid possible quarantines. If you feel you might have come in contact with someone over spring break, please consider having your child(ren) take advantage of the virtual learning opportunity.
Starting Monday, April 12, we plan to resume business as usual. Virtual learning will only be an option for those who have committed to it for Trimester 3, or for those with Covid-related concerns. Also, please know we will continue our Forward Testing at grades 4 and 8 and will be starting the Forward testing for grades 3, 5, 6, and 7. The test must be completed at school, whether students are participating virtually or face-to-face, so attendance is important. If, however, your child(ren) is (are) ill, please do not send them to school; we have make-up testing dates included in our schedule.
Thank you all for your support and hard work on keeping our HHASD family safe and healthy this year. #TogetherWeCan
Yours in Education,
Tara

Congratulations for once again representing our district well... and teaching people how to spell glockenspiel... Can you define it as well? Answer at the end of the newsletter!

- percussion instrument composed of a set of tuned metal keys arranged in the fashion of the keyboard of a piano
- a percussion instrument composed of a set of tuned wood keys arranged in the fashion of the keyboard of a piano

RMS Volleyball Team Goes 11 - 1
The 8th Grade Girls Red Volleyball Team had an amazing season this year. Even though there were several restrictions due to Covid-19, such as limited practices and no fans in the stands, the team ended the season with an 11-1 record. Their dedication and teamwork was evident all season long. Their perseverance during difficult games and positive attitude toward each other was prevalent throughout the season. I could not be more proud of Ellyson, Christina, Aubrey, Katie, Haley, Sophie, Sydney, Rebecca. Good luck in your future endeavors!

Health Update
During our March board meeting the following items were discussed:
- eRate Category 2 Funding: This is a new opportunity for our district, which provides us with access to about $45,000 of additional funding for technology. Ms. Harwood reviewed the district's proposal which includes wifi, equipment, switches, routers, cabling, and installation and configuration. This will be acted upon at the April 12th meeting.
- Ms. Tomich, our Director of Pupil Services, and District Assessment Coordinator, reviewed the Forward Exam for this year. She has worked with both Ms. Shattuck and Ms. Mallow to create schedules for testing in both buildings.
- Dr. Villalobos reviewed the Curriculum Review Cycle with the Board; there were no changes.
- Dr. Villalobos reviewed the progress on facilities work completed at RMS in connection with the HVAC issues earlier this year. With the unseasonably warm temperatures last month, contractors were able to move the piping on the roof to the peaks and complete the bracing. The remaining items involve work that must be completed when the boilers can be shut off.
- Ms. Howe reviewed each of the district's insurance programs. We have received renewal rates and have made suggestions about approvals and/or going out to bid for all.
- Dr. Villalobos provided an update regarding the pandemic. Ms. Shattuck provided an updated Library Usage Plan, that helps bring the library back into use, after nearly a year of being closed due to the pandemic.
The following items were approved at the March board meeting:
Dental Insurance
HHASD Curriculum Review Cycle & Plan
Library Usage Plan
Pupil Services Update, Ms. Tomich
