Google Calendar for the Computer Lab

This year instead of creating a "set" weekly computer lab schedule, I would like teachers to sign up for the lab as needed to fit into your curriculum. Now since MAP testing is coming to an end, I thought it would be an appropriate time to share with you the digital Google calendar for lab sign up. I have shared the calendar with each of you. Please watch the short screencast on how to access the Google calendar and how to reserve the lab.

Destiny Quest

Why use eBooks? The ease of access is one reason. The eBooks allow students to access the book anytime on their school iPad or other device. The student can take notes and highlight important information. The notes and highlights are kept in the student’s backpack. Every time they open the eBook the notes and highlights are still there. A dictionary is linked so they can look up the meaning of a word. Many of the books have audio available. They are a great way to read!

Teachers, you can use these on the SMARTboard to model close reading in a whole group or small group setting.

All 3rd and 4th grade students have learned how to access Destiny Quest during their library lessons this week.

Just a few simple steps to get to the eBooks:

  • Turn on iPad or other device in a wireless network.

  • Open the DestinyQuest App

  • Sign in to student account:

    • If not signed in,

      • server: destiny.hssd.k12.wi.us

      • select school

      • sign in with district username and password

  • Search for the book or topic or just put in eBooks.

  • Look for the green E to indicate this is an eBook. Click on the book.

  • Select Open in Browser.

  • A popup box will tell you that the book is not checked out. You can choose to either check out the book or just open the book.

  • Start reading!

EZ Tech Lessons and Learning.com

All teachers have access to EZ Tech. This is a wonderful resource to use when teaching 21st century skills. Third and fourth grade students will have individual accounts again this school year. Kindergarten, first and second grade teachers can utilize the materials on their SMARTboards.

To take a look at this resource please use the following link: Learning.com

Your district username will be used for the login and password.

Use Howard Suamico for the district name.

I will be having a short inservice on Monday, October 19th at 8:00 if you would like to learn more.

A few weeks ago Maureen sent out an email regarding Wi-fi devices for students who do not have internet access at home. Students who qualify can check out these devices to use for homework completion requiring internet access.

Here's what you need to do:

  1. Pick up a MiFi Hotspot waiver form in the library or school office. Send it home with the student.
  2. Return signed waiver form to Maureen Mommaerts. She will check to see if the child is eligible. She will send you an email letting you know if they qualify.
  3. When internet access is needed for homework completion the Teacher completes the “HSSD MiFi Checkout Form” - link: MiFi Checkout Form For your benefit you may want to bookmark this so you can easily access the form.
  4. Students may come to the library to checkout the device. Please have students come to library between 2:30 and 2:45. Paula's day is over at 3:00.
