My Students Team (MST)
This fall, the Wake County Schools are piloting a new communications strategy designed to increase family engagement called My Students Team (MST). The program allows us to provide academic updates to select adults outside the immediate family. Such communications are typically reserved for only parents or guardians, but MST allows parents to name up to two other supporters who may receive this information. The purpose is to see if the additional support helps a student academically.
These supporters--siblings, aunts/uncles, grandparents, friends, etc.--will receive periodic text and mail updates related to such topics as achievement, attendance and scheduling. The project is developed, financed and implemented by the Student Social Support Lab at Harvard University.
We are excited about the opportunity to increase the number of non-parental supporters who receive important information about students. We expect you will have at least a few questions about this initiative. Our district's MST website,
has a list of frequently asked questions. Be on the lookout for a more detailed info flier over the next couple of weeks which explains in more detail how you can participate in this new communication strategy.
