Monday Message
From the desk of Dr. Harrell
October 14, 2019
First Quarter complete. It has been a great first Quarter. It still amazes me and I’m sure you as well how fast time moves when you are busy and engaged in the work. When I go onto campuses I see amazing people preparing and guiding our amazing students. There are days that are tough and arduous but there are many more days that are grand and move exceptionally fast. Our students continue to stretch and reach goals and milestones that many doubt could be achieved. This all starts with each one of you. Regardless of the position, you hold everyone plays a part in the success of our students. It’s not one person, one campus or one department instead it is all of us working together along with our community. We must be especially grateful to our parents for their support, help, and willingness to become involved. Throughout this Monday Message, you will see goals accomplished, staff sharpening their skills, and the community engaged.
Mr. Fowler shared the story below with me last week. This story captures the difference made in Alfredo Alvarez’s life by the involvement of many. You will hear from this young man how he has accomplished one of his life’s goals and persevering through heartbreak. He had the support of his family, an instructor, and a community of people some of which he may never meet. As you listen to the story I’m sure you will have students come to mind.
Have a Wonderful Week.
You have earned the break.
Be Safe – See you next week!

October Employee of the Month
Rose Lee
I would like to take this opportunity to recognize our employee of the month for October as Rose Lee, administrative assistant. Mrs. Lee started her journey at UCISD three years ago and is known to everyone by her smile, positive attitude, and "ALL IN" mindset. There is nothing that she can't and won't do to support every member of the C&I team. Whether you're in need of an Eduphoria master, information about upcoming events, or just in need of a positive light, the main office at the Benson complex is where you will find it in Mrs. Lee. She is one of the strongest assets and our district community is blessed to have her.
Please help our district congratulate Rose Lee as our Employee of the Month!
Award Winning, Superior Rating, Area Finalist, Sweepstakes Band
Congratulations to the Uvalde High School Coyote Marching Band for their Division 1 Rating! On Saturday, October 12, 2019, the Uvalde Coyote Marching Band traveled to Hondo, Texas to compete in the U.I.L. Region XI Marching Contest. The band performed their show Angel’s & Demon’s and received a Superior 1st Division Rating. A Superior Rating is the highest rating possible that is awarded by the judges. With this, our Mighty Coyote Band has now advanced to Area for the third consecutive time!
We are extremely proud of the outstanding dedication and commitment that made this achievement a reality for our students. The support and leadership of the assistant band directors and Mr. Jung have led the band program to this prestigious recognition. Way to rep the U!

This past week Tony finished #4 in the 2019 USA Boxing Eastern Elite Qualifier held in Columbus, Ohio. Tony will head to Louisiana in December for an opportunity to box his way onto Team USA. We are extremely proud of both young men and wish Tony the very best of luck as he continues boxing.
Local Firemen to the Rescue
The UHS FLS kids were supposed to go on a field trip today but it was canceled.
So, very very last minute, Mrs. Brenda Mueller made a call to our local Volunteer Fire Department to ask if they could stop by the Candle Shop to present for our kids. Being the rescuers they are, they did! We would like to extend our deepest gratitude to our local Firemen for saving the day with a Fire Safety Presentation! Our kids had a great time!

Robb Sign Receives an Enhancement
The campus sign at Robb Elementary received a professional enhancement. Uvalde High School students in Mr. Black’s class designed the metal artwork to fit the existing sign perfectly. Mr. Fermin from our Maintenance and Operations Department painted and install the metal artwork. The teamwork produced an amazing finished product. The sign will welcome students, staff, and visitors for many years to come.
