Congrations 4A State Wrestling Medalists!
Varsity Wrestling - Coach Andrews
This past Saturday Eudora sent three wrestlers to the 4A State Tournament in Salina. Representing the Cards were 138 pound senior Cael Lynch, 145 pound senior Holden Andrews, and 160 pound junior Dayton Fraser.
Fraser entered the State tournament with a couple of very tough draws. Dayton met up against the tournament's 2nd place finisher and then against the 5th place finisher. Dayton finished his season with a record of 26-9 and a total of 111 team points.
Holden started off the tournament against Rose Hill's #3 ranked Keegan Beavers. Holden just couldn't put his strategy in place and fell to the backside of the bracket. He would defeat Meyer of Andale in overtime, and then fall to Duffett of Tonganoxie landing himself in a battle for 5th place. Holden would go on to defeat Pfizenmaier of Clay Center in overtime to cinch the 5th place match. Holden is a 3 time State qualifier and a 2 time State placer. Holden finished the season with a record of 30-5 and a career record of 110-33. Holden led the team this season with 15 pins and a total of 142 total team points making him one of Eudora's all-time wrestling leaders.
STATE CHAMP!!!!! Cael Lynch stepped into the State Tournament with winning on his mind. He battled a hard-fought first match against the Mulvane's #5 ranked Trent Moses where Lynch would win with a decision of 3-1. Cael would then wrestle Colby's #1 ranked Tyler Voss where he would again win by decision landing himself in the finals. Cael entered the finals with only one thought, "I'm going to win..." and win he did. Cael set the pace from the first whistle and Chanute's Colton Seely just couldn't keep up. Lynch would win by a decision of 8-4 and would become Eudora's 5th State Champ... Lynch would finish the season with a record of 32-4 and a career record of 115-35. Cael led the team with technical falls and scored a total of 128 team points for the season also making him one of Eudora's all-time wrestling leaders.
This was an exciting season to say the least. I couldn't be more proud of these guys. They battled through what seemed like something that wasn't ever going to happen. It's not very often we have multiple State placers let alone a State Champ. It's kind of a big deal... Can't say it enough, I'm proud of you all.
Just goes to show, "The man at the top of the mountain didn't fall there."
Science Olympiad - Coach Hartwell
Congratulations to the EHS Science Olympiad team for placing 3rd overall in the NE Kansas Regionals on Saturday, February 27th! This is a great accomplishment because they also placed 3rd out of the 36 Kansas high schools that competed in Regionals across the state. The NE Kansas Regionals is the toughest of the 4 Regionals because 8 out of the top 10 teams across the state are from our Regionals.
For the 6th year in a row, the team has earned another trip to the state competition later this month! If they work hard, they have a great shot of earning top honors in the small school division!

Varsity Girls Basketball - Coach Parker
The Lady Cardinals continued a tough stretch of games to finish the last week of the regular season. On Tuesday, the ladies traveled to Baldwin to take on the rival Bulldogs. As always it was a great game in a loud atmosphere. The Cardinals prevailed 48-41. Junior Harper Schreiner led the team with 22 points, senior Kate Erpelding contributed 8 points, while junior Mackenzie Mayer added 7. The boards were led by senior Jayla Pierce. Senior Melia Martin had critical defensive deflections and rebounds to seal the win for the Cardinals.
On Thursday, the team traveled to Louisburg. The game was a battle that went back and forth with Louisburg eventually getting the win, 41-38, as a game tying 3 at the buzzer by Harper Schreiner was not allowed. Pierce led the team with 13 points followed by Mayer (9) and Martin (7). Erpelding led the team with 4 assists. Mayer had 11 rebounds followed by Pierce with 6. Schreiner added 8 steals on the night.
The following night the Cardinals hosted Piper in their final regular-season game. The Cardinals had a tough 2nd quarter from the field that proved to be the difference in the 41-32 loss to the Pirates. Schreiner had 12 points followed by Martin with 9 and Pierce with 7. Schreiner had 10 rebounds followed by Martin (7) and Pierce (5). Erpelding provided great defense all night against Piper’s all-state point guard. The Cardinals will host the first round of sub-state on Wednesday against Baldwin. Game time is at 7pm.

On Thursday night, the Cardinals hosted the Piper Pirates. Piper is a team we haven't been able to beat since they joined our league a few years ago. The Cardinals came out with good energy and held a small lead throughout the game and were able to hold off the Pirates 54-52. Hamm led the way scoring 12 points and grabbing 10 boards. Justin Fawcett (12th) scored 10 points and 2 steals, while Conor Dunback (10th) and Logan Sullivan (9th) each pitched in 9 points. Hammerschmidt grabbed 4 boards, while Hamm, Watkins, and Hamm had 3 assists each.
JV Boys Basketball - Coach Watkins
On Tuesday, February 23rd we traveled to Baldwin for our last away contest. The team was on it from the get-go and didn’t let up except we did stop pressing after the 1st qtr. We went on to win 70-22 in a lopsided contest. The boys played great and we were led by Maddox Votaw (10th) with 11 pts, 9 assists, and 6 steals and took one charge for a JV season leading 6.
On Thursday, February 25th we were home against Piper in our last game of the season. This was a tough battled contest from the get-go. Foul trouble hurt us all along the way as we couldn’t keep the right personnel on the floor to stop them. We were up at half and tied at the end of the 3rd qtr. In the 4th quarter, we just couldn’t stay with them and hit enough shots. I should have coached better to help us late and unfortunately, we couldn’t get it done. We were led by Logan Sullivan(9th) with 13 pts and Cody Loganbill (10th) with 7 pts, 10 rebs. Great season for the boys who I know hate to lose especially the last game but they went 12-4 this season and should be very proud of that.

The Eudora Schools Foundation (ESF) and the Eudora Schools are pleased to announce our Cardinals Care Fund. Take a look at this announcement video: https://youtu.be/8e2hqUDJp_I
The ESF's Cardinals Care Fund was created to meet the urgent, immediate, and basic necessities of Eudora students, to ensure that the student's physical, social and emotional needs do not stand in the way of their success in school. This program helps fill needs unmet by any other source. If you or you know of someone that has a need, please reach out to your student's school.
ESF administers financial assistance for emergency needs such as food, clothing, medical, transportation, utility, and housing. Of course, some requests are unique and fall into no specific category. Please note, this is an emergency fund and money is limited.

Cardinal Nation:
EHS has joined the NFHS (National Federation of High Schools) Network and installed new video technology at Eudora District Stadium and in the EHS Gym that will offer you the opportunity to subscribe so that you can watch all of our events at home. By subscribing you also have access to games at any school EHS plays that have the NFNS system; DeSoto and Piper are examples, as well as thousands of other schools across the country that are part of the NFHS. In these times of limited attendance, we strive to be able to offer all we can to our fans and students to be able to watch our events whether at home or on the road. Please go to NFHSnetwork.com and search for Eudora High School to see upcoming events your Cardinals are competing in. Thank you to all parents and spectators for your support and understanding during this year of unprecedented changes.
