Olson Outlook

July Edition

Big picture

Welcome from Mrs. Watson

Welcome to the 2022-2023 school year! I hope your summer has been filled with making memories as a family as well as resting up for a new year. I'd like to welcome all of our returning families back to Olson. The staff and I have missed your kids and can't wait to see them soon! I'd also like to extend a special welcome to all of our new families, both of incoming 1st graders and those coming from other schools or districts.

My name is Stephanie Watson and this is my 3rd year as Olson's Principal. I have four children, ages 12, 9, 7, and 4, so I spent part of my summer break as an unpaid Uber driver! Mr. Watson is a middle school STEM teacher in McHenry. Our family vacationed to South Dakota this summer and enjoyed all of the beautiful nature and wildlife. While I cherished my family time these past weeks, I feel incredibly grateful to work with a staff as dedicated and caring as Olson's and join them in their anticipation of our fantastic students in just a few weeks!

I email a biweekly newsletter with important information, as well as post it on Class Dojo and Olson's Facebook site. Parents and guardians will receive Class Dojo invitations from their child's teacher once we get closer to the school year, so for now I'll communicate with our new families via email.

Please see the information below regarding August Reading assessments as well as a few important dates. I look forward to working with you this year!

Summer Reading Assessments

Just like last year, we are offering students the opportunity to come into school the week of August 1st to read with a teacher. Teachers complete reading assessments one on one with all students in August in order to get to know each child, their reading strengths, and growth areas. To schedule your child's time, please call the Olson office at (815) 338-0473 and Mrs. Furst or Mrs. Watson will get your child signed up.
