Hungry Howie's Pizza Fundraiser Days

We are once again working with Hungry Howie's to raise funds for our school.


We are working on additional dates, but our first Hungry Howie's Pizza Fundraiser Day will be Thursday, December 13th. (This is the same day as our Parent-Teacher Conferences!)


Some things to remember when ordering pizza at Hungry Howie's.



  • You can order ANY TIME that day.
  • Dublin will receive 20% from your orders.
  • The person ordering needs to mention Dublin (on the phone, at the counter, or in a comment with their online order).



Like last year it is the location at 3183 Union Lake Road.

Winter Sing Along and Celebrations

We will hold our annual Winter Sing Along on Friday, December 21st at 2:30 PM in the cafeteria.


Classroom celebrations will follow until the end of the day.


This is also the final day of school before winter vacation.

Updating Skyward Information

In an effort to make sure we have the most current and up-to-date information, we ask that all parents keep important information in Skyward updated.


This is very important as we enter the winter season. When there are snow days and other school cancellations, we need to make sure we are in contact with all families.


Please call our office to have our secretaries update your information if needed. Parents are unable to do this on their own in Skyward.

HALF DAY OF SCHOOL-THURSDAY, DECEMBER 13th!

DISMISSAL AT 11:00 AM (1 HOUR EARLIER THAN USUAL!)

Parent-Teacher Conferences

Parent/Teacher conferences will be held on 12/13/18 from 12:00-8:00pm.


This is also a HALF DAY of school for elementary students. School will be dismissed an hour earlier on this day at 11:00 AM.


This time is an important opportunity to talk with your learner’s teacher to discuss the progress that your child has made thus far this school year and to share your perspective with us for the year. Conferences are a two-way conversation and your insights with regard to your child’s strengths and needs, learning style, and other non-school learning opportunities can help us to shape our instruction.


Conferences are scheduled through Family Access. If you do not have a Family Access account, please contact FamilyAccess@wlcsd.org or contact the Family Access hotline at 248-956-2190. Be sure to include your name, the name of each child in the district, your email address and a daytime phone number.


Online scheduling through Skyward Family Access is OPEN NOW and will stay open until Monday, December 10th.

As many of our fine arts, physical education, and media staff are in multiple buildings throughout the week and/or see hundreds of students, they will need to have modified schedules for this day. Please remember to visit your child's Art, Music, PE, and Media Teacher at conferences as well. See their individual sign ups for times available. Our Special Services teachers will be joining your child's conferences, and are also available for additional time if needed.

Dublin Book Fair

The Dublin Book Fair will take place in our Dublin Media Center this week-December 3-7.


  • Teachers will preview the Book Fair with students on December 3rd during the school day.
  • Students may purchase items on December 4th during their media classes.
  • First grade students may purchase items on December 5th during their media classes.
  • On December 6th, students may purchase items during their media class and the Book Fair will be open AFTER SCHOOL from 4:00-6:00 PM for parents to visit.
  • The Book Fair will be taken down on Friday, December 7th.

8th Grade Band and Strings Concert

The 8th graders from CHS will be here at Dublin on Thursday, December 20th to perform a concert for our fourth and fifth grade students. The concert will take place in our gym from 10:40-11:10 AM.

Student Council Pajama Drive

The Student Council will be holding a new, flame-resistant pajama drive NOW through December 7th.


Please purchase and donate new, flame-resistant pajamas for elementary boys and girls in need. Please send the pajamas in to school. We will have several collection bins inside our office and school.


Thank you for helping others by donating pajamas thru December 7th.

Fifth Grade Spelling Bee

Our fifth graders will be participating in our School Spelling Bee on Thursday, December 20th from 2:30-3:00 PM in the cafeteria.


Our fourth graders are invited to attend this event as our audience and parents of participants are welcome to attend too. Good luck fifth graders!

Two-Hour Delay Procedures

On rare occasions, morning conditions occur that temporarily prevent the District from safely transporting students or requiring students to wait at a bus stop or walk to school. These conditions typically involve thick fog, winter weather or utility problems and historically required cancellation of school for the entire day.


Beginning this year, Walled Lake Schools has developed a two-hour delay procedure that could be used if conditions are expected to improve within two hours. This procedure, which will be used sparingly, will permit students to get to school safely and allow the District to conduct a credited day of school.

Parents are encouraged to develop a plan so their children can safely stay home for an additional two hours in the morning and have them go to a trusted alternate location to await the delayed start of school.


In the rare event that a two-hour delay is activated, the following procedures will be followed:

  1. The District’s phone system will be used to notify all school families and staff members of the delay (by approximately 5 a.m. when possible)
  2. Local news and radio stations will be contacted to report the delayed start.
  3. If conditions do not improve within two hours, classes may be cancelled for the entire day and the same methods of notification will be made.
  4. All bus stop pick-ups will be delayed by exactly two hours (i.e. if your bus stop is normally 8:36 a.m., it will be at 10:36 a.m. on delayed start days).
  5. All schools will start exactly two hours later than normal (i.e. if your school normally starts at 8:57 a.m., it will start at 10:57 a.m. on delayed start days).
  6. Prime Time Care will open at its normal time (must be pre-registered to use Prime Time Care).
  7. Essential service staff (custodians, food service, maintenance, mechanics and warehouse) will report at their normal starting time.
  8. Professional, administrative and support staff shall report as soon as possible and no less than 30 minutes prior to the delayed start time of their school or worksite.
  9. Students shall report to the class they would normally be in at the time they arrive for a two-hour delay.
  10. Breakfast will be available for the duration of the delay and lunch will be served at the normal time.
  11. Schools will be dismissed at their normal times at the end of the school day.
  12. Staff will be released at their normal times at the end of the school day.

Girls on the Run

Girls on the Run is a transformational physical activity-based positive youth development program for girls in 3rd-8th grade. The program and its coaches teach life skills through dynamic, interactive lessons and running games. The program culminates with the girls being physically and emotionally prepared to complete a celebratory 5k running event. The goal of the program is to unleash confidence through accomplishment while establishing a lifetime appreciation of health and fitness.


We are now in the planning stages for our Dublin Spring Girls on the Run team. The team will be available to all girls in grades 3-5. The Girls on the Run team will meet on Mondays from 4:00-5:15 PM and on Wednesdays from 7:50 AM-8:55 AM. Practices will not begin until March.

Third Grade Reading Retention Law

Being a good reader is critical for children to be successful in school. In 2017, the Michigan Legislature implemented the Third Grade Reading Law to ensure that students exit third-grade reading at or above grade level, which will impact the current 2018-19 second grade students by the time they are in third-grade.


In accordance with this law, and as a means of better informing classroom instruction, districts will be providing K-3 reading assessments to students across the state. These assessments will identify students who need intensive reading instruction and intervention, and will also provide useful information to help teachers tailor instruction to meet individual student needs.


Supporting Your Child with iReady

Speak with your child about how using i-Ready will help him or her grow in school.

i-Ready shows where your child is doing well and where your child needs some more review. It helps teachers understand how to give your child the best support, and it lets your child see the gains they will make throughout the school year.


  • Help your child prepare for the Diagnostic by explaining that some questions on the Diagnostic test will be hard and that it’s okay not to know the answer to every question. Questions on the Diagnostic get a little harder each time a question is answered correctly, and a little easier when answered incorrectly. The goal is to figure out the math or reading level that is “just right” for your child, so your child should expect to see some questions that are too hard—and that’s okay! It means the test is working correctly.


  • Encourage your child to take each lesson and test question seriously.Emphasize “thinking before clicking,” because just clicking through answers will not give teachers an accurate picture of what is understood and what requires further instruction.


  • Help your child identify and become familiar with the different parts of the student dashboard. Log in to your child’s account with them and ask them to give you a “tour” of what they see.


  • Encourage your child to use the tools that will appear at the bottom of the screen in some lessons. Your child will sometimes see tools, like a calculator or dictionary, that will be helpful for completing an activity or answering a question on a quiz.


  • Discuss your child’s results by looking at “My Progress” together. First, look at the number of lessons shown as completed in i-Ready and celebrate that number with your child, who should feel good about this achievement alone. Then, take a look at the percentage of questions your child answered correctly in the quiz at the end of each lesson. In discussing these results, you might say


  • “Let’s look at how well you’ve been doing on your i-Ready lessons!”

    “What do you notice when you look at this data?”

    “Can you identify strengths from this report?”

    “What is something you feel like you are doing well?”

    “What areas are challenging to you?”

    “Let’s look at your data to see where and how we can work together to improve in those more challenging areas.”


  • If you are unsure about the expectations your child’s teacher has for the use of i-Ready at home, and which lessons your child should be completing, contact the teacher to clarify them.

Parent Advisory Committee (PAC)


What is the PAC?

PAC is a committee of parents whose children receive Special Education services. It's made up of parent volunteers from every school and program in the district. The group meets once a month with the Director of Special Services.


What do PAC Representatives Do?

  • Attend monthly PAC meetings to help plan events and help other families in the district navigate various issues relative to our Special Education community.
  • Ensure communication between schools, families, and Special Education staff.
  • Pass along Special Education information to other families and your school's PTA.
  • Publicize upcoming Special Services PAC events.
  • Donate their time and talent to help with various PAC events throughout the school year.


When does the PAC Meet?

Meetings are held once a month, typically in the evening. Everyone interested in supporting Special Services is welcome. Come as often as you can!

Voluntary School Accident Insurance

As a service to students and their families, our District is making available a student accident insurance plan for your child at a very nominal cost. The District offers this program because of trends in rising family health and dental insurance costs, increased deductibles, co-payments or lack of health or dental insurance coverage.
