Ways to respond to an emotion in healthy ways

*Think if it will matter in the future

*If a negative feeling doesn't go away seek help from a parent or a trusted friend

*Don't take action on a strong feeling until you have fully thought it through.

Common defense mechanisms

*Repression- getting rid of negative feelings.

*compensation-making up for feeling bad by giving your self gifts or working hard.

*Rationalization-making excuses to explain yourself for your behavior or mistakes rathen than taking responsibility.

Anger management techniques

*Do something to relax

*Rechannel your energy

*Talk to someone you trust

*Get some physical activity
