Attendance this week...

Our goal is 98% attendance and our attendance was 95% this week....yikes!

Remember: Students must be in attendance at least 90% of the days the class is taught in order to receive credit or a final grade in a class. We appreciate our parents' efforts in helping us minimize student absences and prepare our students for their futures!

Interim Principal Update: A Note From Mr. Tucker

Dear Viking Parents,

What a busy week of transition!! Even so, the students and staff have made it such a smooth segue. For that, I am thankful. It is my honor to be here to serve you and the students that we all adore.

As I have spent time in the classrooms this week, I have been so impressed with the student focus, engagement and learning. The teachers are actively instructing and the students are like sponges. It is such a pleasure to be present in such a rich environment.

As we move along this path together, I wish you to know that I am here to help you in any way that I can. Please feel free to stop by and visit or contact me as regards some concern. Working together, I know that there is much that can be accomplished.

Student Work

Students in Mrs. Karg's classes got created Black Out Poetry!

Seven of Mrs. Morrow’s Pre-AP Language Arts students presented their Unspoken digital storybook creations and Texas history expository essays to Ms. Henderson’s fourth grade students and Ms. Whitton’s fifth grade students. Ms. Henderson’s classes are currently studying similar topics in Texas history and language arts; therefore, seeing such wonderful seventh grade writers gives the fourth graders a good idea of where they’re headed! Thank you to Jeremy Hill, Ryder Phillips, Nate McKee, Levi Gaines, Nina King, Layla Wheeler, Hayden Chapman, Ms. Henderson, and Ms. Whitton!

In guidance classes, we talked about Active Listening and what it looks like.

These are the elements of Active Listening:

1. Keep eye contact with the speaker.

2. Wait your turn to speak and really listen rather than trying to think of your next response.

3. Be still, stay focused, do not fidget or do other things while listening.

4. Nod head, or show a quizzical expression if you do not understand.

5. Repeat what they said. What I hear you saying is…

6. Ask related questions and give your thoughts or options when it is your turn to speak.

7. Disagree peacefully. It is ok to agree to disagree.

I respect your opinion, and this is my opinion, although it is different.
