Franklin County 4-H Teen Leaders Council Application Deadline

You’re Invited to apply to be on the Franklin County Teen Leaders Council for 2020. We are looking for Franklin County 4-H members who are at least 13 years old or in the 7th grade. Our meetings will mostly be held the 4th or 5th Tuesday of every month from 6:30-8:30. The location will usually be at the Kunz-Brundige Franklin County Extension Building located at 2548 Carmack Road,Columbus, Ohio 43210.


The Teen Leaders Council is a Franklin County 4-H club that focuses on preparing teens to be caring and contributing leaders through educational and leadership opportunities. Other opportunities will include fun outings and service learning projects.

Giving Tuesday

Help Franklin County 4-H serve more than 11,000 local youth this year by making a donation during Giving Tuesday! Your support will connect youth of all ages and backgrounds to fun, safe, and educational opportunities like summer camp and even international exchange trips! You can help Franklin County 4-H member with a donation to the Franklin County 4-H Council through the Columbus Foundation website.

TRIP SCHOLARSHIPS

Each year, the Franklin County 4-H Council raises money to support our local 4-H program. Part of the money they raise goes to providing 4-H teens with amazing opportunities to take part in trips and camps throughout Ohio and nationally. Citizenship Washington Focus: June 21-27, 2020 (Ages 15-19)
Leadership Washington Focus: July 27-31, 2020 (Entering grades 7-9 in Aug. 2020)

Ohio 4-H Leadership Camp: June 1-5, 2020 (Ages 15 and older)

Ohio 4-H Sea Camp: July 11-15, 2020 (Ages 15-17)

Camp Canopy: Forestry & Wildlife Conservation Camp: June 7-13, 2020 (Entering Grades 9-12)

Senior Shooting Education Camp: July 19-24, 2020 (Ages12-18)

Buckeye Leadership Workshop: March 25-29, 2020 (Ages 15 and older)


APPLICATION PROCESS

  • To apply for a Franklin County 4-H Trip Scholarship, complete the Ohio 4-H Achievement Record Application and submit it to the Franklin County Extension Office no later than January 22, 2020.

  • Some dates for these trips overlap with Franklin County dates which is beyond our control.
    Franklin County 4-H Camp: June 17-21, 2020 (Wednesday-Sunday)
    Franklin County Fair: July 18-25, 2020

STATE ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS

These 27 awards recognize a 4-H member's achievement in a specific area. Areas include: Beef, CARTEENS, Citizenship & Community Service, Clothing & Textiles, Communication, Companion Animals, Creative Arts, Dairy, Environmental Sciences, Family Life & Child Development, Foods & Nutrition, Gardening & Horticulture, Goats, Health & Safety, Horse, Llama, Leadership, Mechanical & Engineering Sciences, Personal Development, Photography, Poultry, Rabbits, Sheep, Shooting Sports, Swine, Veterinary Science, and Woodworking. Each achievement award winner will receive a trip to the National 4-H Congress and which is scheduled to be held in Atlanta, Georgia in late November 2020.


  • To apply to be selected as the county nominee for a State Achievement Award and compete for the statewide award, complete the Ohio 4-H Achievement Record Application and submit it to the Franklin County Extension Office no later than January 22, 2020.

  • ONE COPY OF THE COMPLETED APPLICATION MUST BE SUBMITTED PER ACHIEVEMENT AWARD THAT YOU ARE APPLYING FOR.

OTHER STATE AWARDS

State Junior Fair Board: SJFB is comprised of representatives from several different youth organizations in Ohio including 4-H Youth Development. State Junior Fair Board members help strengthen and coordinate State Fair activities in a fast-paced, action-packed month at the Ohio State Fair. Junior Fair Board members are expected to attend meetings and stay at the fair for the entire 12 days.

  • To apply for this opportunity, members need to complete a State 4-H Achievement Record and submit it to the Franklin County Extension Office no later than January 22, 2020.

OTA Local Government Award: Two $1,500 awards are available to any 4-H high school senior who has completed a local government-type activity that has had significant impact on the applicant's community, township or county.


  • To apply for this opportunity, members need to complete a State 4-H Achievement Record Application and submit it to the Franklin County Extension Office no later than January 22, 2020.

OHIO 4-H SCHOLARSHIPS

There are over 36 state 4-H scholarships available and each has its own description and its own list of eligibility requirements. Completion of an Ohio 4-H Achievement Record is not necessary to be eligible for these awards/opportunities. Instead, a separate, specialized online application form is required. Please follow the instructions on the Ohio 4-H website.

4-H Achievement Record Workshop

Are you a 4-H teen that's interested in applying for state 4-H achievement awards or applying for county trip scholarships to Citizenship Washington Focus, Ohio 4-H Sea Camp, Buckeye Leadership Workshop, State Leadership Camp, or other awesome awards? Mark your calendar for an information session and workshop to start your 4-H Achievement Record. It's like a resume of everything you've accomplished in 4-H and it's a very useful tool for applying for awesome county, state, and national 4-H awards. Bring your computer, we will start filling out your form before you leave!

4-H CARTEENS

Teen drivers interested in leadership / community service opportunities should join CARTEENS! Use your skills to teach court mandated teens with driving offenses once a month and get great perks like gift cards and college scholarships. The next couple CARTEENS will be held December 10 and January 7. They take place in the evening at the Extension Office at 2548 Carmack Road, Columbus, Ohio 43210.

4-H ADVISOR APPRECIATION & ENRICHMENT NIGHT

Monday, Jan. 13th 2020 at 6pm

All advisors should attend including: seasoned advisors (those with more than 5, 10, 20, even 30 years or more), advisors who’ve served several years, and all of those individuals “in the process” or planning to become advisors in 2020.


The evening will include:

  • Dinner served at 6:00pm.
  • Need to Know Club Management Info
  • A Splash of Fun
  • Enrollment Packets for 2020
  • Some inspiration for the coming year

All advisors who register and attend will receive a useful token of appreciation for your service as an advisor along with enjoying a tasty dinner and a time of fellowship following the planned activities. Mark your calendar now!

New 4-H Volunteer Advisor Orientation

Are you or someone you know interested in becoming a 4-H Volunteer and helping a 4-H Club? 4-H Advisors must be screened Ohio 4-H Volunteers. This process takes several steps. One of which is to attend an orientation. The next orientation will be held:
