Heritage Monthly Newsletter
February 2023
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dear Heritage Families,
We have made it halfway through our school year and it has been incredible! Heritage has been busy everyday learning, growing and having fun. We are excited to see what the next half of the school year brings!
In the coming week. you will be receiving your child's MAP report. This is our mid-year benchmark check-in. This report will hold valuable information about the progress your child has made and help you determine where he/she has opportunities for growth. We have a growth mindset at Heritage, so all information we obtain is used to grow your child to the best of their abilities. We hope that you join us in helping your child reach their maximum potential this year.
Enjoy your time this month!
Notes From the Office
Preparation for Next School Year
Principals K-5 do not accept requests for specific teachers. However, we take such great pride in placing students in collaboration with the other building principals, the current classroom teacher, and other school staff. It is a very time consuming process and we truly look at each individual child when considering placement for the next grade level. While we do not always get this perfect, we do try our best to place students in the most optimal learning environment with the information we have. We welcome communication about certain factors we should be aware of in regards to your child, but discourage individual requests. We appreciate your trust in our team with this very important process that we value so much.
Car Rider Reminders
Please do not stop in front of the main doors in the morning or afternoon car line if there is space ahead of you in the line. Please pull up as far as you can so your child can walk on the sidewalk.
AM Drop-Off: If you're in the car line, please pull up. Please have your child ready to unbuckle their seatbelt and get out of the car quickly and safely. If you are requiring an extended stop, please park in the parking lot and walk your child across the crosswalk. If you are coming into the building, please park in the parking lot and check-in at the office.
PM Pick-Up: Please start by using the outside car line to wait for your child during pick-up. If your car is behind the orange cone (meaning you were not one of the first cars in line) on the outside loop (near the left turn into the parking lot), please go into our overflow parking in the parking lot. There will be two lines of cars in each parking aisle. Please follow the car in front of you. After each row is released, please do not stop in front of the doors and pull up to where your child will meet you.
Please also be reminded that Bentley Dr. is utilized by many students as they walk to and from school. Please be sure to drive the speed limit and with caution. Thank you for your continued support to make sure our processes are safe and efficient!
Morning Car Rider Reminder
The doors at Heritage close at 7:30 am. If you are dropping your child off at 7:30 am, or later, you will need to need to walk them to the door and sign them in . Thanks in advance for your cooperation on this.
Outdoor Recess
Per our handbook, we will be going outside in weather above 20 degrees. Please have your child bring appropriate cold weather gear, such as a warm coat, gloves, and a hat. If you're having any difficulty getting these items for your child, please contact our school counselors, Mrs. Haney or Mrs. Stringer.
Indoor Recess
As the weather gets more unpredictable in the winter months, we tend to have more indoor recess time. To make this time fun for your child, please consider sending in activities your child could do for indoor recess. Books, word searches, Sudoku puzzles, coloring and/or activity books, and much more are great ways to spend recess with friends.
SOAR Like an Eagle
Say It ● Own It ● Act It ● Respect It
Our students are continuing to earn Eagle Bucks when they are showing appropriate behavior in all areas of the school (see matrix below). Please ask your child what they did to earn Eagle Bucks each day! Each month we encourage you to use our Nightly PBIS Conversations calendar (shown below) that comes home at the beginning of each month. You will be delighted what your child shares with you from these questions! Once done, sign off and send it back at the end of the month for a chance to win a prize. Thank you for your support and helping to bridge the gap between home and school! If you haven't completed a calendar yet, please consider doing so this month!
Heritage Eagle Pride Days
We celebrate our school pride on Heritage Eagle Pride Day once a month. On these days, students wear purple and/or gold to show school pride, and are encouraged to bring in $1 to donate to the Heritage Boosters based on a community-service deed that they completed to help out around the home/neighborhood to show school pride. We also recognize a student from each homeroom who shows the Eagle Pride Day Character Trait we encourage at Heritage Elementary. This month's Heritage Pride Day will be on Wednesday, February 15th and the character trait we will be celebrating is Trustworthiness. KWC February Activity
For our February activity, we will be showing kindness by providing Valentine's for our local Senior Citizens. We will be collaborating with a local nursing home to provide a Valentine gift box filled with fidgets and notes of kindness. During our monthly meeting, students will apply the values of kindness, compassion, and empathy by working as a team to assemble the boxes, fill, and create notes of love for our local Seniors to show that we care about each of them. This project will be sure to put a smile on our students' faces as well as the local Seniors receiving our act of kindness. We hope your child can join us for this month's activity.
