Evans Band 2nd 9 Weeks Update
Where are we headed now?
The Climb
We ended our face to face year last March with great performances by our 7th and 8th grade bands. We are still currently trying to bridge the gap created by virtual learning last spring. Many students really felt the stress at the beginning of the year to relearn concepts lost. I am happy to report that we making major progress and we hope your student can see and hear how much they have improved since the beginning of the year. We are so proud of them!
SmartMusic Assignments
Students are given weekly assignments in the computer program SmartMusic. Instead of using practice records like we used to in the past, students record assignments in SmartMusic so the computer can help them discover what they need to improve upon. The computer software also allows the band directors to see how much time students are spending practicing the assignments. The purpose of the assignments is for students to use the computer to practice with 3 or 4 times a week and then submit the recording at the end of the week.
Beginning Band
Students who are just starting out now have the ability to play multiple songs like Mary Had a Little Lamb and Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. Playing those tunes may not sound like much, but that is an amazing accomplishment. We are so proud of them!
Region Band Auditions Nov. 7th
Students in 7th and 8th grade have been working very hard at preparing to audition for All-Region Band. The ultimate goal is for students to become better musicians in the process.
Students will come up to Evans on Saturday Nov. 7th in order to record their audition. We will have special microphones for them to use. They will be given a specific time to report to school. It should not take more than about an hour and a half. Specific details will follow when the date gets closer.
Buddy Holly Hall and Winter Concert Changes
We have made a few changes to the calendar for our 7th and 8th grade bands.
8th Grade will be performing at Buddy Holly Hall on Dec. 9th at 5:15pm in conjunction with our orchestra and choir. They will need to wear their all black uniform for this performance.
The 7th grade band will be performing at Evans MS on Dec. 15th at 6:00pm and will wear band shirt and blue jeans for this performance.
Information on free tickets will be sent out closer to the performance.
Fundraiser
Thank you to those who participated in the fundraiser. I just talked to the company today and they say product is slowly shipping out. I will not receive prizes to hand out to students until all product has been delivered. Thank you for your patience.
Band Fees
Thank you to those families who have taken care of their band fees. This financial support is greatly appreciated as we have had to spend more money than usual for items needed for Covid precautions. If you have not done so yet, please take care of that asap.
