Chloe's Life at the Lyle House

After suddenly seeing ghosts and getting restrained by teachers, Chloe ends up at the Lyle House, this home for “troubled teens”. Chloe notices that the other kids or teens there don’t seem like they have such issues for which they should be there. There’s something else going on in the Lyle House, and Chloe wants to find out what it is. The protagonist Chloe meets Derek, another teen in the home. Derek finds that there is something different about Chloe, and when Chloe is in the media room researching about what the doctors said about her having schizophrenia, he barges in and types up necromancer.! Everything Chloe was seeing, feeling and hearing were the effects of being a medium, also known as a necromancer! This means that she could see and talk to ghosts. Chloe meets her roommate Liz, who complains about seeing a poltergeist, and ends up breaking a couple of things around her without noticing it, including a perfume bottle. The doctors at that home took her to a safer house, where she and nobody else would be harmed. Chloe also meets Tori, the antagonist of this book, who likes Derek’s brother Simon, sees Chloe as her competition, to get Simon to be Tori’s boyfriend before Chloe’s. Just for this reason, Tori takes Chloe to the basement, beats her up, and locks her in the crawl space unconscious. Crazy right? Since Chloe had summoned ghosts while she was unconscious, she had to get rid of them, and put their spirits back into their bodies. Derek found Chloe, and was the one who knew how to help Chloe. This gave Chloe a hint about Derek having a special ability, and he had super strength! As the story goes on they soon find out each other’s powers, and realize how dangerous the doctors and teachers at the Lyle House and the classes in it are. They killed Liz! Chloe’s Aunt Lauren knew all along that Chloe was a necromancer and yet she decided to hide it, and send her to a mental house, when she could have just helped by herself. This is not in the book, but whenever Chloe wear’s the necklace, she can see ghosts, and maybe only hear them when she isn’t. The red necklace probably has something to do with the Lyle House because most of the ghosts are from the ones buried outside. I guess we’ll need to read the second book to find out the rest!

Why I chose "You Never Know What Life May Bring"

The song that I have chosen is “You Never Know What Life May Bring”, uploaded by ChrisKramerified on YouTube. This song connects to my book and the author’s message, which is why I chose this book. The author’s message I chose is that “you should trust your instinct and do what you need to do, because you never know what life may bring”. This is because Chloe was really curious about the Lyle house and the whole idea behind it, that whatever she thought she should do, she went for it without thinking about the consequences, because in any way, she will get in trouble. For example, Tori just gave Simon to Chloe, for them to have a relationship and that Chloe needs to follow Tori’s condition about going in the crawl space in the basement. Chloe knew that she shouldn’t go because Tori is no good, yet in order to not hut her already hurt feelings, she went and got beat up. Chloe made a poor decision, but it saved Tori from getting more hurt. Chloe followed what her heart said, what her instinct was, and accepted Tori’s condition. In this song, some of the lyrics include you never know what life may bring, and to get involved, take a stand. Chloe got involved or interfered in Rae’s and Derek’s life by finding about why they were at the Lyle House. Relating to the chorus of the song, there are also many ups and downs in Chloe's life with her aunt not telling her about her ability, her dad keep on moving city to city, ending up in the Lyle House, and losing her best friends. I feel bad for Chloe, but you only live once, and you need to live it properly. Be informed about what's going around you and take a stand, like Chloe and her friends will probably do throughout the series. So, I chose this song, because it relates to the author’s message of “The Summoning”.

You Never Know What Life May Bring

Lyrics of "You Never Know What Life May Bring"

It doesn’t matter where you live

Or who you are

We are all equal at heart

If you’re from here or there

Just as long as you care

You’re never really that far apart

So respect your community

And your family

Weather you like them or not

‘Cause at the end of the day

When the Sun goes away

They’re all that you’ve really got

Because the world is what you make of it

Stand for what is right

And life’ll give back to you

Be informed, make a plan

Take the time to understand

The ups and downs of life itself

You never know what life may bring

We are all pieces

Of the puzzle

And the puzzle is life

If we decide

To make up our mind

Then everyhting will be just fine

Be informed, make a plan

Because the world is what you make of it

Stand for what is right

And life’ll five back to you

Be informed, make a plan

Take the time to understand

The ups and downs of life itself

You never know what life may bring

Be informed, make a plan

Take the time to understand

The ups and downs of life itself

You never know what life may bring

Be informed, make a plan

Because the world is what you make of it

Stand for what is right

And life’ll five back to you

Be informed, make a plan

Take the time to understand

The ups and downs of life itself

You never know what life may bring
