January 2024
Message from Principal Terri Jackson
Happy New year!
I hope your winter break was just what you needed! A beautiful balance of rejuvenation, family time, and much joy!
May 2024 bring you great health, joy, love, and peace.
It was a great first week back for our wonderful scholars. The halls and classrooms were filled with laughter, happy conversations, and engaged learners. I was so proud and impressed by our scholars as I witnessed such hard-working students in all corners of our building on the first day back! We are excited and looking forward to a new year of learning and growing!
We have a very exciting update! Woodland Elementary is getting a new playground this summer! And… with your help, we will be getting a much needed second playground the following summer! Please join us at the January PTO meeting, on Thursday, Jan. 11th, from 6:30 to 7:30 pm as we will begin to plan how to make the second playground become a reality. You can also voice ideas and suggestions for our new playgrounds. We hope to see you there!
As the cold January weather approaches, please help with sending appropriate warm winter clothing so that our scholars can enjoy the outside recess time. Please label and send boots, snow pants, hats and gloves with your child. We thank you in advance for your support with this.
We have an exciting and busy month ahead:
1/11/24-PTO meeting–6:30 to 7:30 pm in the Media Center
1/19/24-5th grade Kindness Retreat
1/26/26-PTO Movie Night -6:00 pm
Thank you for your continued support and partnership,
Terri Jackson
Principal
Gratitude for our 2023-2024 School Patrol
Student safety patrols enhance enforcement of drop-off and pick-up procedures at school by increasing safety for students and traffic flow efficiency for parents. Such efforts allow students to participate in promoting traffic safety where they learn skills they can use in their everyday lives.
Thank you to Ms. Terry Gunderson and to our 2023-2024 School Patrol for all you do to keep our Woodland Eagles safe before and after school. Ms. Gunderson has been an advisor to our Woodland School Patrol for 18 years. A gesture of appreciation was shown to them after one of their morning duties with a Hot Chocolate Party.
4th Grade Bird House Projects
Our 4th Grade Students recently participated in the Land of 10,000 Diverse 4th Grade Birdwatchers Project running in a total 51 schools with 3,515 4th graders participating. Lessons were taught followed by building very impressive birdhouses. Thank you for Brian Henke with Sterling Homes Midwest for sponsoring this wonderful event for our students.
Eagle Choir Concert
Woodland Elementary School's Eagle Choir recently showed off what they have been rehearsing each Tuesday before school in a concerts for parents and Woodland staff, residents of St. Therese Oxbow Lake and for staff members at the Educational Service Center. The students sang various songs, including Let Us Sing Together, Winter Fantasy and United We Sing, an Eagle Choir tradition. The choir wore shirts designed by one of our very own choir members.
Talented And Gifted Education - Robotics
Students in our Talented and Gifted Education classes can be seen working in their robotics curriculum
