Principal's Message
TJ Community:
Wow, I cannot believe students will be retuning to school in a few weeks. I hope everyone has been having a wonderful summer and that the students are excited as we are to return to TJ for another great year.
As you have probably heard, the information coming from the Illinois health department is evolving and the guidelines related to COVID continue to change. I want all of you to know that my number one priority is to keep students safe and in school as much as possible. To that end, we will try as best as we can to go beyond the guidelines (when space permits) so our students stay safe and do not need to quarentine from school because they are considered a "close contact" while they are in the school.
I will share the latest information on all of our safety precautions as we get closer to the start of the school year when information should be more set. There are however, a few guidelines (lunch/recess and entrance and exit procedures) that I feel comfortable sharing with you now.
Please note that changes in our safety guidelines will change if State health guidelines change.
If you have any questions, do not hesitate to call the school. 847.963.5400.
Sincerely,
Dr. Sasso
Entrance and Exit Procedures
Our plan this year is to have all students (bus and car riders, and walkers) enter the school through the front doors. We do not need to check temperatures this year, so we will monitor the entrance procedures to make sure students are staying at a safe distance when walking into the building. If you drop off or pick up your child, we ask that you pull all the way up to the front of the school before your child exits the car of gets into the car. There will be adults outside waving everyone up and assisting students as needed.
Lunch and Recess
Similar to last year, students will not wear a mask when they are eating. Students will continue to eat their lunch in the classroom unless we feel we cannot keep students appropriately spaced apart. If we need to, we will split classrooms up so some students eat in the classroom and the others will eat in the cafeteria. While outside at recess students will need to stay with their classroom in their zone but they will not need to wear a mask. In addition, students will have their own classroom recess equipment to use.

Hello, and welcome back to school! This year for the TJ PTA, we are going to plan all of our usual events, and then make modifications and preparations that align to the D15 guidelines as the dates grow closer. We will need help, as well as feedback from the TJ COMMUNITY, to make each of these events a success. To check out what the PTA is up to, as well as to receive information on upcoming events, please come find us on Facebook; "Thomas Jefferson Elementary PTA" with a picture of the school and the Jaguar, OR use this link on to get to the Thomas Jefferson Elementary Parent Teacher Association.
